Booming Business

Only two days remain until Progress Day. Enforcers are posted outside of a destroyed Ferros factory when the chief of police arrives on the scene

Marcus: "What do I have here?"

Enforcer 1: "Sir"

The enforcer salutes, goes up to Marcus, and guides him through the walkable part of the crime scene

Enforcer 1: "We were notified of an explosion around two hours ago. Our officers arrived on the scene with the fire brigade, and evacuated workers and civilians while setting up a perimeter"

Marcus walks into the building and the enforcer nervously sweats

Enforcer 1: "S- Sir... The scene is quite disturbing-"

Marcus: "Come on. Don't wear my patience"

Enforcer 1: "Y- Yes sir..."

The Enforcer catches up with Marcus and leads him further into the building. They both put on their oxygen mask while going past charred furniture. They keep walking until they make it to a door leading to another room

Enforcer 1: "Our officers found this soon after the fire was put out"

The officer opens the door to reveal several bodies tied up to one another on chairs. They wear enforcer uniforms while having face paint applied to their faces

Marcus walks closer to the bodies and inspects them further. He notices the red smile painted on them is traced over gashes on the cheeks

Marcus: "What the hell..."

Marcus looks at the bodies in disgust

The enforcer goes up to Marcus and presents a sealed bag with an item inside

Enforcer 1: "We also found this in the sleeve of one of the bodies"

Marcus turns to face the enforcer and grabs the sealed bag. He takes out the item and takes a closer look at it. He finds it to be a playing card that has a jester holding a mallet

Enforcer 1: "We believe it was left behind by the perpetrator"

Marcus: "I could've figured that"

Marcus takes one last look at the card and places it back in the bag. He then gives it back to the officer

Marcus: "Did anyone catch a glimpse of the one who did this?"

Enforcer 1: "N- No, sir. Everyone we questioned said it happened out of nowhere, and that they didn't think twice about memorizing any faces. That they just ran for their lives when the alarms went off"

Marcus: "Great..."

Marcus walks around the room and scans different sections of it. He keeps searching until he spots a fragment of what seems to be an explosive. He kneels and picks up the piece of metal

Marcus turns the object around and freezes when he recognizes the design

Marcus: "That crazy little bitch!"

Marcus yells in his mind as he puts the object in his pocket and rises to his feet

Marcus: "Looks like there's nothing else here. Notify me of anything you find. No matter how insignificant you might think it is. Nothing gets sent off to forensics until it has my approval"

Enforcer 1: "Y- Yes sir!"

The officer salutes and Marcus walks past him and out of the room

Marcus: "I love it when that brat makes my life harder"
