First day
Monday
A chilling breeze flows through the small forest town of Winterton, the pure white snow being pushed off the roads by the massive smoke making machines, their operators wrapped up in the usual Shire get up, hot coffee next to them shaking as they slowly drive along. The bright light of the rising sun flickers through the thick and dense trees that surround this small town.
The air is calm and still, as the towns clock ticks away second by second minute by minute, until finally 7am arrives, the bells of the clock tower ring away. Inside almost every and each house alarms start going off. In one of these houses lies a newcomer, in the warmth of his blankets, boxes that have yet to be unpacked littering his floors, and his alarm, blaring from the other side of the room.
Groaning awake Ethan sits up blinking only to be hit with the harsh coldness of his room, instantly shivering he jumps to his feet and runs turning off his alarm in quick succession. Looking up at the small chart on his wall, the first day of school. With a sticky note next to it reading. "Don't fuck up this time, we don't need to move again. -Mum" sighing at it, he moves to the small bathroom turning on the water to his disarray the hot water has not been turn on.
Deciding for the best to skip showering, turning off the running tap, and back to his room to change into winter gear. Black wooly winter socks, with thick pants, a simple orange long sleeve shirt and a purple puffer jacket over top, adding some black gloves and a matching black beanie on his head.
Finally heading to the kitchen to see what he has the choice of eating. As he suspected nothing, the only thing his mother has gotten has been milk and 2 bottles of cheap wine.Taking another sigh he walks to the door and slips into his snow boots, before opening the door and being met with an even harsher, stronger gust of cold wind in his face, instantly freezing him from this head down. Closing the door behind himself and starting to walk towards the local cafe, hoping they may have something good... he hopes.
Walking along the frozen over pathways, snow creating a trail behind him, his eyes skates over the houses and the people. The homes all look old, something cottage-like but also have tinges of the modern day architecture and renovations, just like it seems they are trying to keep in with the modern day but wish it was the past. The people on the other hand wrapped up like him, most are very pale to fair skinned, scattered around is more than a surprising amount of darker skin as well, with no middle ground, yet everyone seems to have no bias to each other, waving at each other and smiling.
Unlike his past towns he was in, normally different skin coloured people would be in different parts of the town, but here everyone seems almost equal, it is putting Ethan on edge.Arriving at the cafe, located next to the city square, entering finally gave a nice wave of warmth flow over Ethan, a joy came to him instantly as he goes over to the counter, smiling at the older ghostly pale lady standing at the counter, "hello dear, are you the newcomer?" She asks instantly, getting her little notepad out to also take his order. "umm I am..." he very awkwardly stammers out, just making the lady giggle, "Well I am Margaret, this is a very small town, news travels fast when people move in, now what is your name and what would you like?" Her smile is warm and kind at Ethan, just making him more on edge but he keeps it in.
"I am Ethan and can I get a large tea and umm..." he paused to look at the breakfast menu. "The.. the pancakes please" he replies smiling at her awkwardly but kindly as well. "Sure thing love, go and take a seat I will go and make it!" She hums walking into the kitchen area as Ethan takes the free table closer to the heater.Sitting there he removes his gloves setting them on the table, just as he was about to look at his phone the door to the store opens, a chill rushes in but leaves as soon as the door shuts. In enters a group of kids looking around his age, heading over and ringing the service bell. "I'm coming I'm coming!" Margaret yells from the kitchen.
"Ahhhh hello you all! Give me a moment and I will get Ally down!" Turning around and in one of the loudest yelling voice Ethan has ever heard. "ALLISON GET YOUR ASS DOWN STAIRS YOUR FRIENDS ARE HERE" this makes the group all laugh a little, Ethan couldn't help but look at them, all ghostly pale like Margaret. There are 3 of them all up, 1 girl, 1 guy, and one he couldn't pin the gender of, before he could notice he has been staring, the one he has no clue on what gender they are spotted and instantly comes over.
"Hey there I am Wendy! It is nice to meet you!" Their voice was masculine but the name leaned towards female. "Oh ummm.. h..hi, I am Ethan" he says nervously, not even used to being talked to.
Wendy smiles at him and waves over the other two, "Lovely to meet you! Now this is Hayden!" She points at the male of them, then to the female, "and this here is Lacey!" Ethan smiles timidly and waves slightly at the two, "oh and guys this here is Ethan, I think he is shy!" Hayden smiles and laughs at it, instantly sitting next to Ethan, "you are new here? That is cool man, you can join us and we can show you around!" Hayden had Ethan's attention, yet he could feel a cold stare at him, looking around semi naturally he can see Lacey looking at him like she is sizing him up, or judging him, a complete opposite to how everyone else seems like.
A few moments pass of Hayden and Wendy chatting away while Ethan could still feel Lacey's eyes still looking at him, about to say something about it but instantly interrupted by another girl there age arriving at the table, having Ethan's food in hand and his cup of tea, "here you go! I am Allison! But you can call me Ally!" She happily says before looking at the others, "you know where to get your food now come on!" She bosses the group, making all of them go into the kitchen, shortly after coming out and sitting next to Ethan with different plates of breakfast meals.
Eating was quiet, Ethan could still feel the cold eyes of Lacey on him, what was her problem he keeps wondering as he sits and finishes his meal. Inside he can tell he already wants to leave...
