"Onika! I'm so glad to see you, my God you look beautiful !" I heard my step sister's voice as I approached her and her father while looking for my mother. "Thanks. You too."
She started to make conversation and occasionally Lawrence trued to join in to but was swept away by his colleagues and clients. Where the hell is my mother. Keke isn't at all bad but it's still awkward.
"Keke, do you happen to know where mom is?" I ask her. It kind of felt weird because I didn't say 'my mom' but I didn't want to offend her knowing how close she is to my mom. Their relationship is kind of bittersweet, for me.
Emphasis on the for me. I just feel envious of their relationship because they're don't share the same blood but are much closer than me and her. Our relationship has been strained the day my father died.
"Haven't seen her since we arrived, sorry. My guess is that she's backstage making sure everything is going well, you know her." I nodded but still stayed with her because I didn't want to get lost.
So I just got a drink and stayed at one cocktail table by myself while observing the pretentious people around me. I was so deep in judging this one old white woman that I almost chocked on my drink when someone surprised me.
"I'm starting to think you're stalking me." I heard a husky southern voice in my ear. I looked at the person who almost gave me a heart attack. It was the hot blonde girl from therapy, and the one that helped Lauren and I at the club when Lauren was drunk as shit.
"Oh... hello?" I didn't know what to say. I wasn't stalking her. "Which rich businessman's daughter are you?" She asks me. I don't even know her name.
"I'm Carol's daughter." I replied her eyebrows rose before nodding. "Beyoncé Knowles." She put her hand up. I stared at it, what was I supposed to do?
"Oh my God." She chuckled and grabbed my free hand to shake it and I felt my face heat up. Embarrassing.
"Onika... Onika Maraj." I said while awkwardly shaking her hand. She pulled away and giggled, cute. "Well, I'm guessing you were forced by your mother to attend?" I nodded in reply and she nodded as well.
"Well, I have a feeling we'll be seeing more and more of each other as we go to the same therapist. But I'll have to excuse myself." She smiled and left while simultaneously reaching for a drink on the trey a server was carrying while she exited. That was... weird.
Beyoncé Knowles. Very interesting. And weird
