Mary was looking at the treaties with hatred. She knew they would help secure power but at the cost of her children. Kenna has told Mary about it. Kenna also being a mother fears of losing Diane, and her son, Edward. Mary just grab the papers and threw them angrily at the ground. She had tears on her and she threw a vase smashing it to pieces. Francis came in to see the broken vase. "Mary! Why did you do that? " "You know exactly why!" "Mary we need to keep our power in balance " "I don't care about power Francis! I don't want to lose my children!" "We will if they don't gain power within a marriage! " "Power leads to nothing but lost and grief! It's evil and we have been cursed with it!" "Mary. Calm down. We have no choice. " "You will give up your daughter for power?!" "If it means to secure ours then yes !" "You changed! You used to tell me, power didn't matter to you. Only your family. Now you want to separate your family for power!" "I'm your husband and you will listen to me!", he slapped her cheeck. He left furiously. This wasn't the 1st time Mary was hit by him. 3 months ago Francis changed into a power hungry man. She tried to get him back to his old self. But it was hopeless. He turned into the one thing Mary, Catherine and Bash feared. He turned into his father, Henry. Mary thought he would be different. That he wouldn't be like him.
Annabelle heard her parents arguing. She heard her father slap her mother. Philipe was there with her. They knew what their father had becomed. He was different when they were little. Ever since their little brother and sister, Richard and Melissa were born he changed little by little. Annabelle wouldn't dare defy her father unless Philipe was with her. She knew if he took her side, their father wouldn't hit her or worse, beat her. Annabelle entered the room her mother was in. "I'm still engaged to the Duke of York?" "Yes. You'll be queen of England so the most powerful duke should be your husband." "I don't want to marry him mother." "I know. Your father wants it. I've tried to not get him to marry you two. But I can't." I know" "Soon, 4 years from now Melissa will also marry and leave me.", Mary sobbed. Only Philipe and Richard would stay in France if they want. Annabelle and Melissa had to obey their husband and live where they did. Annabelle held her mother and tried to comfort her. She didn't want to marry the Duke of York. People have told her that he has a bastard daughter and beats her. That he is an abusive man that only wants power. He only agreed to marry her for power in England. So he could be king. Annabelle was in love with some else. He was of high status and didn't have as much power as the Duke of York but lived here at court and was kind, gentle, and friendly man. He was 2 years older than her. He was Thomas the Duke of Lorraine. She was in love with him.
