'New case, detective.' Brandon throws the file onto Alex's desk. He looks up from his notes and raises an eyebrow, unimpressed as he picks up the file and flicks through it.
Brandon ignores him. 'How do you always get the best cases? The CEO of Storms Towers, Daniel Miller, found dead at 11:45 this morning. You don't realise how lucky you are. Most exciting case I ever got was about a random missing guy.'
Alex narrows his eyes. 'You really think that it's lucky that a guy ended up dead? That an innocent person wakes up and goes to work to see a corpse in the middle of the street?' Brandon freezes. 'Um, well come on...I mean - that's not what I meant-' he stutters.
Alex laughs suddenly, startling Brandon. 'I know what you mean. I was just messing with you.' Brandon glares at him. 'I hate you sometimes, you know that?' He continues grumbling to himself as he leaves the office.
I give him a frown. 'Alex, don't mess with him. You know he means well.' He turns to me and sighs. 'How could I say no to such a pretty face?' I smile. 'Come here.' I get up from the couch and walk over to his chair. He puts down the file and pulls me onto his lap as I snuggle into his warmth.
'So what's going on with the case?' I question.
'Well, police are now searching the scene for clues and close family members are now under investigation. There were no signs of injury on the body except for a few fractured bones from the impact. The real question is - was this a murder or a suicide?' He places me on his desk as he stands up.
'There were signs of a scuffle on the roof but the body seemed to be unharmed by whoever the attacker was.' He paces around the room as he studies the notes.
'There are a few main suspects though so that's helpful. Isabelle Conley, his girlfriend, was seen having a heated argument that night before he was killed. Anderson Miller, his best friend, was the last person to have seen him alive.' He skims through the sheets.
'And...James Stanford, his twin brother who hated him after something happened between them. He was asked about their relationship during the interview with the police but he is refusing to say.' I give him a teasing smile. 'Think you can solve this mystery, detective?'
He grins. 'Of course. I've solved more than 150 cases. I can't lose my streak now.' He walks over and pulls me closer to the edge of the desk. 'Why? Do you doubt me?'
'Well no...' He feigns an offended look. 'Not really? I mean, you're good at solving mysteries. Maybe a bit too good...' I narrow my eyes and fake a suspicious look.
'Ugh, how dare you.' He smirks and pulls me into a kiss. His kiss is soft and gentle, completely contrasting how he talked to Brandon a few minutes ago. He tastes bittersweet, like caramel coffee. I smile against his lips as he places his hands on my hips. He pulls back and stares at me with admiring eyes.
'What?' I ask, confused. He simply smiles and places his lips onto mine again. This time, this kiss is fierce. He deepens the kiss as I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him closer to me. My hands run through his hair as-
'Hey guys-EW GET A ROOM, YOU WEIRDOS! You two are actually disgusting.' We break apart quickly and I hop off the desk. My face is probably pink from blushing. Alex glares at Brandon. 'We did get a room. You just happened to walk into it.' Brandon returns the glare.
'Well, before I walked in on you guys basically sucking the life out of each other, thanks for that by the way. Now I have to go wash my eyes with some kind of holy water. I don't even know where I can get that stuff.' Alex rolls his eyes 'Get to the point.'
Brandon scowls at him. 'Anyways, John wants you guys to work together on this case as soon as possible.' He pauses, as if he's debating something in his head. 'Honestly, what kind of idea is that? I mean, you guys are just going to hook up every second you get. I left for like-'
Alex clears his throat. 'Tell John that we'll start on the case. Don't worry, I'm sure we won't be attached by the lips every second of the day.' Alex flashes him a sarcastic smile. Brandon's jaw tightens as his fists clench, which is a sign that a fight's about to break out. Great.
'Alex, he's just joking. I'm sure he didn't mean to offend you.' I try to calm him down before the two of them start to argue.
I don't understand what is wrong with the two of them. On some days they could get on perfectly, and on other days, they fight over stupid things and it always ends up with the both of them mad at each other for the rest of the day.
Brandon smiles at me. 'Well, at least someone appreciates my humour.' He gives Alex a pointed look. 'Sometimes I wonder how you guys even are a couple. One is a ray of sunshine while the other is a grumpy ass all the damn time.'
Alex glares at him from the corner of his eye as he begins to pin up pictures and clues on the board. 'Well, opposites attract.' I shrug. 'Besides, he can be really sweet sometimes.' Brandon chokes back a laugh. 'Right. And when is that?' He raises his eyebrows sceptically. 'Because I don't think he treats anyone nicely except for you, princess.' He narrows his eyes.
Alex turns halfway around as he pins another picture on the board. 'Don't be rude to her.'
Brandon's jaw drops in shock. 'I wasn't even doing anything! Oh my god, what is your problem?' He protests. Alex ignores him and turns his focus onto the board. 'Aren't you supposed to be reporting back to John?' Brandon makes an angry mutter underneath his breath and slams the door on his way out.
'Why do you guys always fight? It's honestly really tiring, having to try to stop you guys before you guys start resorting to violence. I swear, someday you guys are going to kill each other.' I turn around and lean against the desk.
'Maybe someday.' He sighs under his breath.
'Wait, what?' I stare at him in disbelief. 'I'm kidding, love.' He turns around to grin at me. 'You could be so innocent sometimes.'
I groan. 'We get it, Mr Smarty Pants. Let's just get started on that case.'
