Forest Lost in Time

Component Six: School Trip

It was August and school had just started, not many kids were living in the town but enough to have a school for. Before their first day of school Willa and Harriet went to the little shop on the east side of town. They made a list;

Pencils- doesn't matter if they are manual or mechanical
Three notebooks each
New water bottles
Coloured pencils
Markers
Folders
Blue, black, and red pens
Rulers
Scissors
Glue
Backpacks/ Book Bags
Glitter gel pens

They then went to the store and got all of their things, except those glittery pens. Harriet is a bit of a prankster. And she really wanted glitter pens, so she wrote it down in hopes that Willa would not look at it too closely. Well Harriet, your handwriting looks nothing like Willas. So she figured it out pretty fast. Anyways, they went to their first day of school for this year. They had a strange school schedule. The first week they would go, and be there for five days. Then the rest of the school year they would go every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Willa was fine with school, because it meant she could learn with all of her friends. On the other hand Harriet hated it at a considerable amount. She always got in trouble for not doing her homework.

And since she did not have a parent, she would always have to talk to the teachers. One day though Willa kept getting frustrated with all the things happening, her sister always getting into trouble, her cuts still healing, so when someone bumped into her it would hurt, and all her school work. With all of these things happening she kept outbursting when something happened, and Harriet could hear it from across the house. So a few minutes after Willa's last outburst, Harriet went into Willa's room about to calm her down. When Willa threw a book close to harriet.

"Woah Willa geez." Harriet jumped kinda scared of Willa.

"Sorry Harriet it's just this is really frustrating." Willa muttered, running her hands through her hair.

"It's ok, just don't take my head off." Harriet laughed lightly, in turn Willa did as well.

"I say that we should go take a walk and grab some food?" Willa got out of her chair and started to grab her wallet; "What do you want?"

"How about we go to the deli, you know where Logan works. He is awesome." Harriet exclaimed, throwing her shoes on sprinting through the door.

"Ok! See you there, I am going to take my time!" She yelled, but Harriet was already there.

"Hi. Logan." she said out of breath looking out of the door to see Willa just now closing the front door.

"Hi Harriet, what can I get you today?" He asked to give her a menu.

"Um. The usual." She said sitting in a booth.

"Got it captain!" he said, getting to work on her sandwich. Willa was getting closer to the restaurant, but she was so lost in thought she completely forgot that she had reached the door. She finally realised that she was there, and she opened the door and walked in.

"Finally slow poke geez!" Harriet said, getting up from her table and walking next to her sister.

"Well at least I got here eh?" Willa proclaimed nudging her gently.

"Hey Willa. How are you?" Logan asked.

"Good. How about you?" She questioned.

"Good. Not excited to be back at school." He joked.

"Oh come on. We get to hang out more and you don't have to work as much." She exclaimed.

"Yeah, yeah I know. But I still don't want to go." He whined. Willa let out a long sigh, followed with a laugh.

A few days later, the high schoolers all took a small trip to the edge of the forest to collect wild flowers, dirt, and fungi. They all had to split into pairs so Willa went with her friend Olivia. They then went to the very edge of the forest. Olivia started to get dirt samples while Willa was getting a few mushroom samples.

"Livvy! Do you have enough for us to leave?" Willa asked, brushing her hands off on her leggings and pushing herself up.

"Yeah I think so!" She said giggling as she held up a half full reusable bag.

"Woah!" Willa exclaimed, giggling herself.

"Willa... Someone's staring at you." Olivia jeered. In an instant she snapped around to see Logan staring at her. When he sees her he goes back to picking flowers. She started to blush. "Ooooooo. Does someone have a little crush?" Olivia jeered again.

"What?" Willa exclaimed in disbelief. She paused and thought for a second. "Fine, maybe, just a little. But don't tell anyone!" she exclaimed playfully, hitting Olivia. Olivia started laughing because of how childish her tough best friend was acting. "What are you laughing at? At least I don't have a crush on Lucas." Willa jeered back with sas.

"Hey!" She playfully whined, "He's cute! You can't deny that!"

"Uh yeah I can!" Willa remarked

"No!"

"YES!"

"NO!"

"YES!"

"FINE. Be like that" Olivia finally said laughing. "I'm gonna go back to teach. See you in a minute."

"Alright see you later" She said waving, going back to digging when she felt a tap on her shoulder. When she turned around she saw Logan, Holding a violet in his hand.

"Hi." He said.

"Hello." She said now completely facing him.

"What did you need?" She questioned

"Oh nothing, just wanted to give you this and talk." He said holding out the flower.

"Oh wow thank you. It's funny you know my favourite flower." She said taking the flower and twirling it in her hand. Suddenly there was a scream, so Willa ran over while she was sprinting thinking it was Olivia, when she saw the creature again. So, she turned heel and ran into the forest flower still in hand. She was right on its tail when it made a turn, she turned the same corner... Nothing. There was nothing. How did they keep doing this? She spun around looking up and down searching for the creature. Was it the same one she hurt that night? Was it coming for her? Was everyone endangered because of her? She wasn't given time to ask herself more questions when she felt a hand on her wrist.
