Nightfall has crept across the sky and I still haven't returned to camp. I still wonder what Blade truly wants from me. Is he going to use me in his army? I'm not sure and it's best if that question was left unanswered. For some odd reason, something tells me to go check up on that Night Razor. That poor dragon still has open wounds that are bound to get infections.
So, I got up from the ground to see if she's still there. I arrived at the top of the ditch to see a black mass just laying there. The Night Razor's breathing sounded raspy, I have a distinctive fear that she might be dying. So, I thought of a solution and then it hit me. If I gain her trust, then I might be able to save her.
Ah, I'm so smart. The only way to a dragon's heart is through its belly. I thought to myself with pride. I know that Night Razors like catfish, but where the hell am I going to get catfish? The ocean is far far far away from here and the nearest fish shop is also far away from here. My only option is to fish from the pond even though I highly doubt it has catfish swimming around in it.
It's still worth a shot, though. Then, I felt the dragon's gaze on me. Her intimidating eyes stared me down as she bared her fangs at me, but I'm not even near her. You know what, I'll just try again tomorrow morning. That way, I can let the dragon sleep.
~Night Razor's POV~
Even though it was pitch black, I can still see the human wolf hybrid spying on me. Just what is that mangy mutt planning? I thought to myself. No one is that nice and no one is that stupid to sneak up upon a Night Razor. Then, I saw her leave after a minute of glaring at her, but I'm not sure if she's truly gone. I know for the fact that I should keep one eye open in case the wolf tries to kill me in my sleep.
There's no way in hell I'm letting that thing near me. Not in a million years! If my wing wasn't fucked up, I would've flew away by now. But no, I'm stuck in this stupid ditch where predators could easily surround me. I must remain strong no matter what.
~Liana's POV~
The next morning came and I have an empty basket. If you're wondering where I got a basket from, let's just say that I found it lying around on the ground because someone was careless enough to leave it there. It's considered strange to be collecting random objects off the ground, but it doesn't really matter. People do it all the time, don't they? It shouldn't be a problem.
Besides, the basket is perfect for collecting fish. I may not have a fishing rod or anything to attach fish bait with, but I have my own methods. I jumped down from the entrance to the opening to see that the Night Razor wasn't anywhere to be seen. Now where could she be? I thought to myself, not aware that something was behind me.
From the corner of my eye, I saw something crawl towards me. I gasped as I swiftly turned around to see the Night Razor slowly climb down the steep rocky hill. She must've knew I was gonna come back. "Well, well, well. Look who it is. I knew you were up to something." The Night Razor growled. I gulped nervously, nobody has ever considered of taming a Night Razor due to their bad reputation. Science says that they're one of the most aggressive dragon species.
But that doesn't stop me from caring, though. "You knew I was going to help you?" I asked. She raised an eyebrow, that wasn't really what she had in mind. "Don't play dumb with me! I know there's something evil going on behind all that fluffiness." The Night Razor snarled. I had no clue on what she sees in me. I'm assuming it's based off of trauma she had, that would explain why she doesn't trust me all that much.
Then, I heard her stomach growl loudly. It sounded like she didn't eat for a long time, so I decided to walk towards the large pond in the middle with the basket still in my arms. "Where are you going?" The dragon was confused. I felt the water and it was colder than I thought. "Welp, here goes nothing." I muttered nervously. Without further hesitation, I held my breath in and leaped into the pond. It was freezing, but I am determined to keep trying!
The fish underwater was fast and I was running out of air. So, I swam up to the surface to get more oxygen. After taking several breathes, I went back under there to catch my aquatic prey. After many attempts, I caught at least one fish. I swam out of the pond and walked towards the Night Razor. She must've had a blast watching me making a fool out of myself because I can see her smiling.
"Here ya go." I held up the fish to the dragon. She eyed me up and down with a skeptical look. Then, she slowly made her way towards me with caution. That's it. Come a little closer. I excitedly thought to myself. The Night Razor stopped when she got at least 3 feet away from me, she opened her mouth wanting me to feed her.
Even her teeth are extremely sharp like the spikes on her body. "Huh, that's interesting. Maybe I should name you Syria-" Before I could finish that sentence, she snatched the fish out of my hands. I jumped back in a startled manner, I almost forgot how quick Night Razors are. In a span of three seconds, she ate the whole entire thing. At least I get to feed Syria.
Then, Syria crept her way towards me. I started to back away timidly. "Woah, woah, woah. Hold on! I-I don't have anymore!" I said as she trapped me between a boulder. Out of nowhere, Syria regurgitated the fish out. Half of the fish's body just splatted onto my lap, I groaned in disgust. Syria then sat back down away from me and looked at me with anticipation.
Does she expect me to eat this? "What're you looking at me for? Eat the damn fish." Syria hissed sassily. I sighed and hesitantly took a bite of the half eaten fish. I almost threw up, but I successfully swallowed it. I smiled at Syria meekly. I didn't expect her to smile back, though. Amazed, I slowly got up and reached my hand towards her muzzle.
Syria saw what I was trying to do and recoiled. She growled at me and tried to fly away, but failed. I instantly figured what the problem was, her left wing was extremely damaged. I had a gut feeling that Blade had something to do with it. Those marks weren't the doing of a large animal, but a cruel man. Now I get why Syria has trust issues.
I walked towards Syria in hopes of getting a closer look of her injuries. She was covering herself with her left wing, so I tried to get a little bit closer. But then, she caught me so I tried to play it cool and scooted away. I heard Syria walk away from me.
Evening went by and we haven't interacted in a while. Out of boredom, I grabbed a big twig and started drawing in the dirt. I drew a picture of Syria because I was still amazed by her beauty. However, I didn't notice she was behind me until I felt a shadow loom over me. I didn't bother to turn around, so I kind of ignored her.
Then, I heard thudding footsteps fade away. I looked over my shoulder to see where she went and I saw Syria grab a tree branch and started scribbling the dirt with it. All I saw where scribbled lines everywhere, but I was still amazed. These dragons are the most intelligent of them all to start copying off basic human stuff.
While admiring Syria's artful masterpiece, I accidentally stepped on one of the lines. She growled at me furiously, I then got my foot off the art and she went back to normal. Understanding the idea, I stepped over the artwork. While dodging the lines, I somehow got closer to Syria. Feeling the hot breathe on my neck, I whipped around to face her.
We looked in each other's eyes. This isn't a vicious beast, but an intelligent gentle creature whose soul reflected my own. I tried to pet her again, but she didn't accept it. She bared her fangs and growled at me while recoiling from my touch. I retracted my hand once again. I tried once more, but this time, my head turned away from Syria and slowly raised my hand.
After a while, I felt a scaly nose on my palm. I turned around to see Syria in contact with my hand. Then, she retracted and sprinted away from me.
This is the start of our friendship.
