To my dear reader;

Maeve Ross has a secret.

Which, for half human, half bird, is an understatement. Something that hopefully you know about. No humans should have their hands on this book, they must never knows the truth.

Maeve is almost regular, a savvy, beautiful, brunette and blue eyed 16 year old who is very modest and an extrovert, but struggles to find herself in most situations she gets herself into. With a loving family, a best friend who is a nerdy bird girl, Simone Harwood, and her best friend's brother, Jason Harwood, who's her boyfriend, she has no problem having someone to talk to. Besides problems in her surroundings, she has problems with her mind and heart. But dear reader, she has secrets too, just like you and me. Secrets she can't let slip. Secrets, my dear reader, that could get her tried and hung as a traitor. As if we all have not had those thoughts.

With this one secret, this one delicious secret, she can control water, make objects float in midair, manipulate metal, and who knows what else. She could be more powerful than the king, queen, and Council put together.

One. Beautiful. Delicious. Deadly. Secret.

She's in love. Yes Reader. Just as unkind as some date-hating parents might be, there is a whole island of them...

At first, for the first few weeks, they meet in secret.

In other words, only their parents knows.

Then, she is betrayed. Someone very close to her tells the Council of Elders. Why is she already avoided on the streets of Memini, even before she was betrayed? Where will she go if she is exiled?

But the most important question to her right now is, 'When is the next time Maeve can see Dillon?'

Dear Reader, it is my job to take note of the places and things that are said and whispered. But maybe you shouldn't trust me. I told you someone close to Maeve betrayed her.

Could it have been me?

Damn, anything is possible Reader. You will see that in these pages.

RULES OF THE COUNCIL OF ELDERS:

Motto: Ridemus diligimus gerimus posterum novam viam vivendi. (Latin for We laugh, we live, we lead the way to a new future and lifestyle).

What Memini Means to Us:

It is a realm of peace, safely shaded by magical force fields by our top students and our monarchs, Queen Charlotta and King Samuel. They have rules for a reason: younger avians can live in a world of their own, with their own people, in a safe world.

· You must not leave the city until you or your children reach the age of 7. They are to receive training for the outside world and their world.

· They are not to stay in a committed relationship (meaning no sexual acts) in all cases, unless you are both 21 years of age. No committed relations are allowed. You may be in a relationship, but only with other avian-hybrids and a strict no commitment rule.

· The Good Book (Holy Bible) must be memorized by age ten. If it is not, those children must spend extra hours in their religion class.

· They must live by the Good Book and raise our children in its presence. You may change its standards, but you must teach your children about the dangers of the Other Side (Hell/Mundane World).

· The bringing of mundanes (people who are not born of avian-hybrid descent.) to Memini is strictly forbidden. This is punishable by execution of the mundane, or being set free and the avian being banished for up to a month or not at all, depending on the type of mundane, how many were brought, how they were brought, and why they were brought.

· People, unless they have a license, are not allowed to read books and watch movies by mundanes, until they are checked and allowed.
