The hills turned a bright shade of orange-red as the sun began to rise. Lily had been driving all night in search of a free town. Having no luck, she parked on the side of the road, and made sure all her doors were locked.
"Finally, I can rest-", her voice was cut off by one of them ramming into the side of her car. Hissing and spitting like the snake it was, a young woman having been turned into a Viper. Lily casually grabbed her double barrel shotgun from the back seat and rolled the window down. She blasted the poor woman away without a second thought.
Lily had been killing the Vipers for about six years now, and she had gotten so used to it that it bothered her no longer. She rolled the window up on her 1965 Ford Mustang Coupe, stained with the Vipers black blood. She decided it was too early to retire, cranking the mustang up, and rolling along.
The endless miles of desert before her made her want to vomit. That had been all she had seen for the past week, and she was growing tired of it. She was lonely, and depressed. Weeks earlier having to have killed her parents. They had been turned into Vipers, and there is no known cure for the "disease". Or at least, that's what the scientists had called it. Until all the scientists became that horrid creature.
Lily scoffed, thinking about the oblivious scientists. They knew nothing, and didn't last very long because of it.
She had also had a brother, Archangel, who disappeared the day the disease was discovered, and had not been seen since. Lily had always hated Archangel. Or, she thought she did, until he disappeared. Then she wished she had never said anything remotely sour to him. But, it was too late to confess her insecurities now. She had to focus on the road.
Just has her thoughts returned to the reality she was living, a Viper ran in front of her Mustang.
Swearing under her breath, she hit the thing, and watched casually as its blood splattered all around the car.
"Stupid bloody filth.", she muttered, and sped up, trying to get to the closest town as quick as she could. Hoping to God she wouldn't tear up her car any more. Already having banged up the hood so bad it looked like the scratchy skin of the snake like Vipers. Lily sighed dramatically, amusing herself, and kept driving,
Finally, she came upon an abandoned, run down, old town. Where she would hopefully be able to shut her eyes for a minute or two. She grabbed her pack, Mossburg 500 (a shotgun), M16 (an assault rifle), and 50 caliber Desert Eagle (a pistol). Hopping out of her car, shutting and locking the door quickly, spinning her shotgun into her hands. A loud boom erupting from her shotgun, as the Viper's head standing before her, flew into a wall, blood flying. A loud screech killing the eerie silence that had been the only form of sanity Lily had heard for hours. She cringed when she saw the gruesome remains of a little girl, splattered over the ground before her.
She may have been able to kill the Vipers... But the children were a different story. She hated killing the children, even if they had been infected. She hated the way their eyes turned gold and hard with thin slits for pupils, completely masking their once soft kind natures. Their skin peeling over to reveal black scales with loose pieces of flesh hanging by a thread. Her life was a terror, and she knew it. The man places she had once known as home had been either destroyed, bombed, or raided. The damned government had to get involved and ended up killing a whole town of innocent civilians. Good thing they were either dead, or a Viper now.
She laughed silently, at the mere thought of the congressmen being ripped to shreds by the Vipers, and eventually waking only to be a Viper themselves. Oh, the irony.
She walked on, slinging the shotgun over her shoulder. Pulling out her Desert Eagle for protection.
As she approached the town, she heard soft hissing coming from the bar. Knowing what was coming to her, she hurried to the window to get a look. Inside of the bar were two vipers, both male, and probably drunk. One of the two was slightly muscular, but enough to overpower Lily. Her only option was to go in with her gun.
She carefully tip-toed closer and closer to the front door, until she was only a foot from entering.
All of a sudden, a hand wrapped around her mouth, and a deep voice whispered in her ear, "Shhhh....."
