chapter 12

Monday, February 19th

Today, Angela and I are going to see the gynecologist to enquire about the health of our baby, get a sonogram and other stuff. 

We wake up and get ready, we are both wearing tracksuits because it's a bit chilly outside today and we should be expecting rain later on today.

After getting ready, we go down to the car and off we go. I stop at a local shopping center to get Angela a fruit salad from Woolworth.

After a while of driving, we get to the gynecologist right on time for our appointment and they let us in.

Gynae: good morning, Mr and Mrs Dlamini. I hope you are well.
Me: we are, thank you.
Gynae: alright then. Mrs Dlamini, we are going to check your baby's heartbeat, health and other things. after that, I will prescribe some vitamins for the health of your baby and your own, alright?

She nods in agreement to all that the gynecologist has said.

Gynae: alright then, please do come with me.

We stand up and follow her to this dark room with a screen and other equipment. Angela then lays down on the weird chair before the gynae rubs some cold gel on her. She then rolls the ultrasound machine on her and there he/she is, our baby.

Angela: that's our little human.

She says pointing at the screen with tears rolling down her face. I hold her hand and kiss her knuckles.

Me: yes. yes, it is.

We get our sonogram and our prescription and we drive home, I'm going to get the vitamins delivered. Angela holds my hand as we are halfway there.

Angela: baby, I'm having some bad cravings.
Me: baby, I...
Angela: please?

She asks with pleading eyes.

Me: okay, what are you craving?
Angela: some McDonald's.
Me: but Ang, we could have just ordered in.

I say as I do a U-turn and drive to the nearest McDonald's.

Angela: I think I'll stay in the car while you go inside and order.
Me: Thatohatsi.

I call out in a stern voice and she bows her head and starts sniffing and I just know what's coming next.

So I hold her hand and apologise. I then give her a peck on the cheek before heading inside.

I order her a McFeast and a chicken foldover for myself. I also order her a donut and a Oreo McFlurry.

I run back to her before she becomes hysterical. I get to the car and she wipes her tears away as she accepts the McFlurry with a huge smile on her face. 

Angela: thank you.
Me: I'm sorry.

I plead as I look deep into her eyes.

Angela: it's okay.

I lean in and kiss her, slowly. I withdraw from the kiss after a few minutes and I start the car.

We get to our apartment and I hold the food for her. She's still peacefully enjoying her ice cream. We get to our apartment and I unlock the doors before letting her go in first.

I get in and find my mom standing there with a smile on her face and my dad, my uncles, aunts and the twins appear from behind her.

Angela: surprise?
Me: oh baby, that's explains the...

I say as I feel bad for being so stern with her.

Me: I'm so sorry.
Angela: it's okay.

She says and gives me a warm hug. My eyes then wander off to the card my mom is holding and it reads "congratulations new daddy.".

Angela: it's your daddy shower.
Me: thank you.

I genuinely mean that, I am really grateful for this woman.
