Lotto jerked around the moment the phone had begun to ring. It was a loud and annoying sound, breaking through the silence of the night. His heart was beating faster. Yes, the ringing had caught him off guard. No one out there would have expected a call in the middle of the night. Yet here he was, standing in the shabby motel room and the phone hadn't stopped playing this constant loop of high pitched noises. He grabbed it with his tire, answering the call with an enraged tone to his voice.
"Yeah, Bremm here! It's in the middle of the night, who the fuck is this?!" He raised his voice and was clearly about to yell at the stranger on the other end, but then he came to the realization that Clint was still in the same room with him. The green Ford Focus turned around to the black Corvette, who was still sleeping on the old bed. He let out a sigh of relief, seeing that he hadn't woken up his partner.
"Who are you!" He hissed at the car on the other side of the line, keeping his voice down this time.
"Oh Lotto, you know who I am." A familiar voice returned in a calm manner. Obviously Lotto's anger didn't scare the unknown caller away, neither did it provoke him. And on top of all that, it made the bulky Ford ease up a little. Still he wasn't too content with receiving a phone call at this time of day, where normal cars simply wanted to rest, yet knowing the vehicle on the other end took some weight off his shoulders. There was no need for hostility.
"What do you want, why are you calling?"
The car he was talking to let out a sigh. Lotto could picture the annoyed expression of the vehicle on the other end of the line. However, the moment he spoke, he sounded still calm and collected, even though the things he would tell the green Ford Focus was rather something to be concerned about.
"You messed up today. They know it was you who took that BMW's life. They have your description. Do you know what that means?" The contact asked the bulky vehicle. His voice became darker and more serious, the very moment these words left his mouth. The Ford moved his head up and down, softly, looking back at his partner, who still hadn't been woken up from the green car's talking. Lotto knew well enough that the caller couldn't see him nodding, so he silently answered his question. His red eyes still pinned on the black and gray Corvette C3.
"Yeah I know what that means." He hissed back at the other vehicle. He had taken a risk. Something that could endanger not just himself, but Clint as well. Maybe even the caller on the phone. The green Ford Focus could feel a fiery rage build up deep inside of him. He was angry at his own stupid actions and he felt guilty at the same time. Guilty for forcing his friends back into a dangerous situation like this.
"You know you have two police departments on your heels, coming for you and Clint. You two can try to run and hide, but they will hunt you down."
Lotto let out a growl of frustration. His lips pulled back. The moonlight making his sharp and pointy teeth shimmer in white lighting. He took a deep breath before he continued the conversation.
"Well, but isn't there anything you can do about it?" He asked the caller, clearly dissatisfied with what he had been told so far. There was another sigh on the other end of the line. Then the car's voice got louder and more threatening.
"I'm doing what I can to save your asses. If I didn't give a shit about you, I wouldn't have called you and given you this simple warning! I want you two to lay low for now, while I figure out a solution. Alright?"
Lotto closed his red eyes and took another deep breath.
Breathe in and breathe out. Repeat. Over and over. He thought to himself. His blood was boiling in his veins. He wanted to scream. He wanted to yell at the caller for the simple reason that the vehicle's tires were clearly tied. That he couldn't simply let all cops disappear.
"Yeah, we'll try to not attract any more attention. We get it. But we can't promise anything. If they come for us, there'll be a bloodbath. You know it."
It took the caller a moment to answer. This was a scenario that could potentially happen. Maybe tomorrow. Maybe in two years. No one could tell exactly when the fronts were about to close in on them. But he was well aware that hell would let loose one day. And he feared it. He truly hoped that Lotto and Clint would get their shit together for once until he had figured out a way to maneuver them safely out of this mess.
"Yes, I know Lotto. I'll try my best so that it doesn't have to come this far. Anyway that's all I wanted to tell you. I'll call you if I have an idea or anything important happens." And with that, the unknown vehicle hung up the phone. And there it was again. That silence of the night that came crashing down on the green Ford Focus.
The brutish vehicle glanced back at his partner. There was no way he could catch some sleep in his current state. He was way too enraged. Lotto knew well enough he could leave the Corvette for a few hours. No one would look for them here, in the middle of nowhere. This motel wasn't even marked on any maps. The two cars had simply stumbled across it by accident. It was the perfect hideout. At least for now.
The Ford Focus needed to clear his thoughts. He needed to go for a drive. And so, he opened the door of his motel room, making his way outside. The moon reflected on his metal body, as he stood there on the gravel parking spaces in front of the shabby and slowly decaying building, surrounded by large pine trees. His engine growled silently as he made his way onto a nearby dirt path, leading through the woods.
