He slowly opened his eyes.

Moonlight and streetlight shines dimly through the windows, making the dark room visible for him.

He looked around the room, noticing the unfamiliarity of the room.

He found himself in a classroom, not excessively large, where tidy rows of desks and chairs are adorned with layers of dust. The shelves are lined with worn-out textbooks and storybooks, while torn posters were cling to the old bulletin board at the back of the classroom. Windows near the door are shut by the grey dusty curtains.

Except birds chipping outside, the room is silent, so quiet that he could hear his own shaky breaths.

"Why am I here?" He questioned himself, eyes were trembling. He stood up immediately and ran towards the door.

Trying to twist the door knob, he found out it's locked.

Millions of questions raced through his mind, the dark surrounding made him quiver and scared. But he knew that he needs to leave here now. So he decided to explore the room for hints.

Flipping over pages of the books, checking the drawers of the desks, he found nothing.

He attempted to check the whiteboards, yet the darkness blurred the clarity of the words written on them. Striving to locate the switches, he discovered that the school's lighting system had been deactivated.

Luckily, he had found a torch near the teacher's desk. Switching it on, the big, blue words on the whiteboard were visible for him.

The Fan

"What is the fan?" He thought. He moved the torch to the ceiling. 10 old fans were hanging on the ceiling. But what's with the fans?

Again, he reached to the switches. Beside the light switches are the fan switches. He twisted one of them. Nothing happened.

He tried switching on all of them, and when he switched on the last switch, a click sound could be heard. The howling sound of wind blowing could be heard from a fan at the right corner of the classroom.

He immediately understood, there is only one fan that works and right underneath the fan is a desk. There must be hints on there.

He walked towards the desk, when suddenly the sound of broken glass could be heard. He froze at his position and looked around.

Nothing special was seen. He ignored it and continued his way to the desk. He kneeled down and checked the drawer. There is a small black bag.

The bag's design is very simple and delicate, featuring a cute image of a puppy. Upon opening the main pocket, he discovered the key he had been searching for—a shiny silver key adorned with a sticker written "Room 404." Alongside the key, he found a folded piece of white paper.

Out of curiosity, he unfolded it. Words were written on the paper with a pencil.

When will you be here?

Such a simple sentence, yet it made Jake felt weird and even shivered. But he doesn't have the time to think about it.

He decided to carry the bag with him so he can grab anything that helps him to escape and put them inside the bag.

Before unlocking the door, he switched off the fan that has been continuously blowing for minutes, making piles of papers scattered on the ground. He picked up a few and placed them on the teacher's desk. Then he unlocked the door and head out of the classroom.

With the sharp light of the torch, he immediately spotted a broken plant pot on the ground, which he assumed it had made the sound of broken glass just now.

Kneeling down, he stared and picked up the broken pieces on the cement floor. "How did this  fall down?" He whispered to himself.

He stood up and observed the surroundings. Beside to classroom 404, there stood classroom 403. Neatly arranged wooden desks and chairs adorned the area in front of the classrooms. He walked to his right, where yet another classroom, room 402 came into view.

Immediately he saw the stairs near a mysterious machine and a lift. He felt relieved. He fastened his pace down the stairs to the third floor. He rose the torch up and got startled, making a soft yelp and his eyes were shaking.

A bulletin board with dripping blood on the coloured paper was on the wall. A printed face of a clown was stuck in the middle that looked absolutely horrific.

"What the hell is that!"

He quickly walked away from the bulletin board and ran downstairs to the 2nd floor. Unluckily the stairs were broken into two half and there's a large hole in between. He ran to the other side of the staircase, the situation is the same.

"Damn shit.." He uttered a cursed word and walked back up the stairs, trying to find some sort of plank for passing the large hole.

The 3rd floor is nothing different from the 4th floor, it's mostly classrooms, with two washrooms and two mysterious rooms named "Multipurpose room". Most rooms are locked, except the washrooms and one classroom, the 308 room. He decided to explore every bit of the place for hints.

He opened the door and rose the touch for the visibility of the room. Immediately in front of him stood a figure without a face. He screamed out in horror and stepped back. The figure slowly moved nearer and nearer to him, making scary groaning noises. He trembled and started running, the faceless figure chased after him.

He kept running and running, feeling helpless and frightened. He suddenly remembered that the washrooms are unlocked, he quickened his speed and hid in one of the cubicle.

He covered his mouth, not daring to speak or breathe. The groaning noises disappeared a few minutes later and Jake quietly peeked outside of the cubicle. The figure was nowhere to be seen.

He let go of his hands on his lips, trying to breathe properly. Now his desire to escape the school became larger. This place is too creepy and dangerous with strange stuffs and even monster-like figures.

He got out of the cubicle, a piece of white, crumbled paper that was laid on the ground caught his attention.

How are you today?

You must be back from the hospital, right?

Take more rest, drink more water and eat medicine on time.

Is this a letter to someone? Jake thought, the handwriting seems so familiar to him, but he couldn't remember where he had seen them.

He folded the paper and put it into the bag, heading out of the washroom and continued exploring.

At the corner of the corridor to the 2nd building, a boy was peaking out. He is in his neat uniform, a pair of nerdy glasses and holding a mysterious book. He observed Jake and frowned.

"Please leave."
