                                                Chapter 5: The Outbreak

While on their way to the military base,  the 3 Atlantis vans encounter a road block that was established due to road work, and are forced to a take a detour through the city of Los Angeles.  However, even at night time, the traffic in the city is terrible, and the 3 vans get caught up in a traffic jam.  "You gotta be kidding me", the driver of the first van said in a angry tone.   "I'm sure we will be moving again shortly", his partner said.  The driver shot him a angry look.  "You've never been to Los Angeles, have you?"  "No", his partner responded , "how'd you no?" "Lucky guess", the driver said in a sarcastic tone.  After about 15 minutes of being caught in traffic, the 3 vans eventually manage to make it out of the traffic jam, and continue en route to the military base.  However, while driving through downtown L.A, they encounter more traffic, but not as bad this time.  "OMG", the driver of the second van yelled.  "At this rate, the Cold War will be over by the time we reach the base".  His partner chuckled, then began talking.  "Believe me, the Cold War will be over once these soldiers make it onto the battlefield." "True", the driver responded. 

Just then, a group of armed men and women came sneaking out of a dark alleyway.  They maneuvered they're way around the traffic on foot and approached the back of the third van.  One of the women, wielding an assault riffle and carrying a backpack, joined the other combatants behind the third van.  She took off the backpack, opened it, and pulled out a C4 explosive, and placed it on the back of the van.  A man exited his car and pointed out the terrorists to some nearby police officers.  The police officers immediately raised their guns at the terrorists, but were almost instantly shot dead by all of them.  Everyone began screaming and many people began ditching their cars and running away on foot.  The guards in the vans, hearing the gunshots, quickly exited their vans and began fighting with the terrorists.  The security guards were well armed with shotguns and SMG'S, and put up a hell of a fight with the terrorists, but were defeated.  After all the security guards and law enforcement officers were dead, the terrorists began focusing their attention onto the 3 vans, with several other combatants wearing masks placing C4 explosives onto the other 2 trucks.  After hearing a large number of sirens in the distance, the terrorists detonated the explosives, effectively blowing the doors clean off the vans.   However, not only did the explosives destroy the vans doors, it also destroyed a large portion of the cages containing the mutant super-soldiers!  When the police and SWAT teams arrived, they were greeted to the sight of the terrorists being ripped to shreds by the now loose mutants!

Despite the best efforts of the local police and SWAT forces, the citizens of Downtown Los Angeles are quickly overwhelmed and consumed by the mutants.  After killing the civilians, the police officers and the SWAT teams, the mutants continued to slaughter the rest of the city.  Within 45 minutes, roughly 40% of L.A's population was either dead or living dead.  When the Atlantis Corporation learned of the escaped mutants and of the chaos in L.A, they quickly deployed the Atlantis Special Forces Unit (A.S.F.U),  and the Atlantis Biological Containment Service (A.B.C.S), to contain the outbreak.  The A.S.F.U entered the city via VTOL's & armored combat vehicles, and the A.B.C.S arrived in several Atlantis transport trucks containing biohazard containment equipment.  The A.S.F.U began to evacuate the remaining civilians out of the city, and the A.B.C.S began setting up a quarantine zone around the city of Los Angeles, declaring the city a hot zone. 

                                                            Chapter 6: The Quarantine Zone

1 week after the outbreak at Los Angeles,  the Atlantis Corporation has finished establishing a quarantine zone around the perimeter of the city.  The purpose of the QZ is to make sure that the green flu  does not spread beyond Los Angeles.  The QZ, codenamed site 244, is a large, steel wall that is defended by barbed wire, guard towers, 24/7 military patrols, spotlights, and a alarm. Dr Gideon Reynolds is ordered by the Atlantis Corporation to enter the quarantine zone and recover one of the bodies of the terrorists who attacked the transport.  Atlantis wants to see if any evidence on the bodies could reveal who the terrorists work for and why they attacked the transport. 

 Gideon arrives in Los Angeles on a VTOL, and once over the quarantine zone, repelled out of the aircraft on a wire.  Gideon, wearing a hazmat suit, landed safely of the ground.  Once on foot, he grabbed his assault riffle and began searching the area.  After searching around for a little, he grabbed a handheld transceiver from his suit and reported his status to corporate.  "Field report, confirming arrival at site 244, no sign of any mutants or any other hostiles, Gideon out".  He put the HT back on his suit and continued searching.  The streets were littered with trash, broken vehicles, rubble, and dead bodies.  The sight disgusted Gideon, but he couldn't help but forget the fact that he was the one who created these "unnatural forces". Gideon continued down a deserted street, and eventually came across the destroyed Atlantis vans.  The vans were covered in blood and were completely smashed. Gideon quickly grabbed his HT and gave corporate another update. "Target found, area appears to be clear of any mutants, im proceeding with caution."  As he approached the vans, he came across the mutilated bodies of the terrorists.  Many of them had their faces ripped off, their throats torn out, or their guts hanging out of their bodies. "Aw, jesus", Gideon said with a look of disgust.  He want back to his HT, "bodies appear heavily mutilated, but are still identifiable, requesting a extraction."  "Roger that Gideon", a voice over the HT said, "just shoot a flare and a VTOL will be their ASAP". "Copy that, standing by." Gideon grabbed a flare gun and shot a flare into the air, it gave off a bright red light. Just then, a distant growling noise could be heard, and it got louder and louder.
