Wow!! 800 reads already!! Thanks guys!
Scott quickly wiped his hands down his apron, trying to get the sticky syrup off of them. He added a mint leaf to the top of the drink, then slid it across the counter to the awaiting customer, happily taking their tip.
The entire night had been like this, ask what they want, quickly make the drink, slide it across the bar, take their money and tip. He didn't mind, ya bartending was repetitive but it paid well. Only a few people would actually sit and talk, most were just on a mission to get wasted or to get someone else wasted.
He cautiously ran his hand through his gelled hair, cursing the grenadine that stuck to his hands like duct tape. A man sat down at the bar in front of him, with a thin face, jaundiced fingers and tired eyes, Scott cautioned himself. He was all for not stereotyping people, but something about him gave Scott a wary vibe. "What can I get you?"
"Vodka tonic" he spoke in a simple fragment. Scott whipped it together and slid it across the bar, secretly studying the man more. "Put it on my tab. The name's Kyle"
The blonde quickly plugged it into the cash register and gave the man a polite smile.
Just when he thought the wave of customers had died down, another man took a seat, next to this so called Kyle character. He was thin, with long brunette bangs that outlined is cheery eyes. Long, thin fingers steadily tapped the bar top as the man contemplated what he wanted. His white tee shirt, with a small face logo, sat daintily upon his shoulders and small frame, accenting his protruding collarbones.
Scott normally just went through the motions, but this boy caught his interest.
"What's your name, brown eyes, and what can I get you?"
"I'll take a martini please, and i'm Mitch. How about yourself?" Scotts eyes lit up when the boy spoke, quiet, yet exuberant and feminine.
"Scott" he smiled beginning to mix the drink. Mitch made conversation with Kyle talking about the music the DJ was playing. Kyle made attempts at flirting with the brunette, in a series of not-funny-puns or pick up lines. Mitch laughed it off, obviously trying to be polite as Scott handed him the drink. The boy handed the blonde a tip along with the money for the drink. "Thank you"
At last, the customers died down but the atmosphere was still hyped. Scott loved to watch the people go by, and this time set his eyes on Kyle and Mitch. Boy did Mitch have a lot of patience with people. Scott would have snapped about 10 minutes ago if he were in that situation.
They were turned in their stools, facing each other. Kyle's drink rested on the bar top, almost gone and Mitch held his martini glass between his legs.
Suddenly, Scott noticed the quick slip of Kyle's hand. It could be mistaken for him running it up Mitch's thigh, but the brunette did not react and kept talking. It all clicked instantly in the blonde's mind.
Mitch set his drink on a napkin on the bar beginning to use his hands to tell the story. Scott quickly interject the entire situation.
"Hey hey hey. You play nice now" he pointed at Kyle "Actually, you need to leave". The thinner man quickly left before Mitch caught on that his drink had been spiked. Mitch sent a confused look to Scott as he was left alone now at the bar. Scott took the martini back, dumping it out then throwing the glass away for safety measures. He quickly began making him another drink and explaining what happened "He slipped something into your drink when you were talking"
"Oh wow. I never would have noticed, thank you"
"No problem, I didn't want anything bad to happen to you. Sorry about that though, this ones on me" Scott slid the new, un-spiked drink to him. He quickly texted security the situation and a brief description of the man.
"Does that happen often?"
"Not trying to make this awkward or anything but i've only seen people slip something into a drink when the other person is way out of their league. Y'know, cheating the system to get what they normally couldn't have" he shrugged. A blush and giggle came upon the brown eyed boy.
"His jokes weren't all that funny, I must say"
"Tell me about it. His pick up lines were borderline sexual harassment"
"So charming, dirty pick up lines and a spiked drink. Would have loved to go home with that boy" Mitch laughed. Scott smiled at him, his laugh both infectious and intoxicating. He finished the last of his drink, gently setting it on the bar again.
"Then tell me, what do you find charming?" Scott quipped in a joking manner
"I like boys that I can hold a conversation with, or the ones who buy me drinks. Those are the ones I will gladly go home with"
"Well Mitch, I guess the next rounds on me"
