A white letter with From Mitch written on the top in ink sat unopened on Ed's unpolished desk. I bounced my leg, biting my nails and gazing at the letter nervously. It had been two peaceful days of living in Ed's candy store. They finally decided to open it this morning, and guess what they found right outside the door. A letter from Mitch, to me.

At first, I had a strong temptation to rip it apart to shreds. Why should I care about anything he had to say, I was mad at him. I couldn't do it though, as another part of me was curious. How did he know I was here, and when had he dropped it off? Why had he?

Finally, I decided to open it. I forced my leg to stop bouncing, setting both of my hands on my crossed leg. I slid the paper towards me, avidly ripping opening the envelope. At first glance, I could tell the letter was written with haste, the sentences were sloppy and ink stains covered the page. What really caught my eye though, was the first line:

Please believe me.

Yeah, sure. Whatever.

The reason I saved you from dying in that closet was part of the Medaeno's plan. He knew you wouldn't' talk about your family to him, or your mother. Not even with death threats. It was one of the reasons he took you away in the first place, to learn about your family. I don't know why yet.

I was supposed to earn your trust, be your friend, and get information from you. That was all I was supposed to do, but what the Medaeno didn't know was that I had a plan of my own. I wanted to take him down. And you can help me. At least I think so.

I've been paying attention around the castle. There's a rumor that...the Medaeno wanted you for your magic. I don't know enough about it yet but, the soldiers seemed pretty serious about it.

Whether or not the rumor is true, I need you to do something. It's important, very important. Go to the old magic town, where all the people with magic are left. Get them to help you.

Take him down, please. I know you have no reason to do anything I say, and I know you're mad and you probably hate me but please, help this kingdom. No one's willing to fight back. But you're willing to, aren't you?

I'll send a letter to the town in a week. Hopefully, you'll be there.

P.S, I hope I'll see you again.

There were goosebumps on my arms, and I realized I was holding my breath. I let out a deep exhale, folding the letter closed again quickly. I didn't know what to think of it for now, only that I was in disbelief. And I was angry. Angry at Mitch.

I stuffed the letter in my grey coat pocket just in time as Ed opened the door. He gave me a wave, and I waved back, smiling. Hopefully, I didn't look too odd.

"Anything happen with the store yet?" I asked cautiously, intently listening. Ed sat against the wall, where the paint started to peel off, and shrugged.

"Not that I know of. It's only the morning though, so...we'll have to see." There was hope in his voice, which made me glad. Ever since I had came to Ed's family, everyone's mood seemed to be worse. They reassured me it wasn't my fault, but I knew it was. It was only a matter of time until the Medaeno would find me again, and I knew that.

Thinking of the Medaeno reminded me of the letter, and I started to get lost in questions and worries. Was Mitch telling the truth? I wanted to believe him...but he had already betrayed me, and the letter was probably just a way to get me captured. Again.

I really had to stop worrying.

"So, did you read the letter?" Ed's question almost made me choke on air. It was the way he said it so casually that made me a little annoyed. I nodded, throwing the folded piece of paper at him.
