Her office had never been this clean. Where usually there'd be papers scattered and pens missing allround, it was now a haven of peace and tranquility, with now a speck of dust out of place.
Since Vivian's announcement, Syndrome had made sure that every room on base was a comfortable space for her to be in. He'd added elevator levels, and made Vivian her own super-shoes. That way, she could safely skate around instead of walking, if she so pleased. In the meantime, she was also banned from wearing any sort of heels.
No one else knew about her pregnancy, and Syndrome wanted to keep it that way. Understandably so, in the field they work in. No one dared to question why Eclipse left more of her work to Mirage, or why she was suddenly glued to Syndrome's side.
Very early on, Syndrome had decided that the best way that they could continue this pregnancy, with no repercussions, would be if he was by Vivian's side 24/7. Now, he didn't care about his quality of sleep as he moved her into his room. No longer did he think it was best for them to split up as much as possible during work, as to not distract each other. No more easy, one and done, breakfasts, but one that was healthy and luxurious. If he felt it was better for the baby, he'd do it.
Honestly, Vivian felt like one big distraction to him nowadays. He was even insisting on going to doctor's appointments with her, although it never seemed to fit right in his schedule.
But for this one, Syndrome had made time in his schedule. Cancelling a quality of progress meeting to be with Vivian. Why, you might ask?
Vivian was now eighteen weeks pregnant, meaning that they were going to find out the baby's gender. Buddy claimed he didn't care what the baby was going to be, but Vivian knew that secretly, he was hoping for a son. To, in his own way, do right what Mr. Incredible had done wrong as a mentor.
"Eclipse, we're ready for you."
She wasn't nervous, not at all. Okay, maybe a little bit. This wasn't the first time they'd done an ultrasound, and even if she thought that the whole gender-reveal thing was stupid, she still felt herself getting emotional. Whether that was because of the baby, or because Buddy had been throwing his heart and soul into her well-being, she was unsure.
"Congratulations, you're having a boy."
"Yes!" Syndrome cheered from besides her. "See, I told you I felt it, I knew it!"
"I've never disregarded your feelings, love." Eclipse smirked, amused by his enthusiasm before turning to the doctor. "Thank you for your time."
"Of course. We've scheduled another check-up in two weeks, since that was the soonest that Mirage could find a slot in your roster."
"Perfect, for how much longer will we be having bi-monthly appointments?" Eclipse questioned, realising she might not have the time for such frequent visits in the future.
"Preferably until you move into your second trimester. Since the highest occurrence of... errors tend to happen throughout the first three months, we want to make sure that you and your baby are healthy before furthering apart our visitations."
Eclipse nodded, a little nervous at the mention of 'errors'.
"It's important to remember that, especially since this is your first pregnancy, it's possible that it won't go considerately easy. If there are any issues, or doubt on your part, we want you to contact us as soon as possible. Aside from that, as we've said before we want you to lower your work-rate as much as possible, to make sure the transition into the second trimester goes without trial. Keep healthy, and take it easy."
Bibbers meowed, beeping as the voice-recording was confirmed. The doctor didn't even flinch at the sudden intrusion, he'd gotten used to it by now. Syndrome wanted to make sure they kept everything on record, even if Vivian thought it was a little dramatic.
---
"We should celebrate." Buddy decided as they made their way back to their room. "I'd get the wine, but you obviously can't have that. So I'll figure out something else."
"Celebrate with whom, us?" Vivian chuckled. "No one knows except us, my doctor, Bibbers... and Mirage because of you."
"Hey, she's the one taking over your job in the meantime, so big deal if she knows." Buddy shrugged. "As long as she minds her own business, I couldn't care less."
"I don't mind." Vivian admitted. "It's nice to share it with someone."
"Do you... do you want to tell the staff?" Buddy halted.
Vivian hesitated, humming as she thought about it for a minute. "Not yet."
"Okay." Buddy accepted.
Looking back, that was definitely was the correct decision, even if it hurt to keep such a happy secret.
---
"Eclipse, I've found our next target." In came Mirage's call. "I've been able to locate Macroburst, his powers should be more of a challenge compared to the last three. Permission to proceed?"
Interesting. Eclipse thought. Turns out these supers aren't very hard to find, when you know what you're looking for.
"Permission granted." Eclipse responded. "Get back to me when he responds."
"Understood."
So far, they'd had Universal Man, Psycwave and Everseer. Some of the biggest disappointments Syndrome had in awhile. There was no entertainment to the fight! Just a squished super. However, it did heighten his ego to know that he made the robot just that strong on the first try. If all supers kept fighting like the others, they could clean them out with a quick swipe. Now that would be a dream.
Even in the midst of this news of progress, Vivian couldn't shake off the feeling of dread in the pit of her stomach. But for what? she couldn't pinpoint it. Every good thing was happening, they were progressing in the plan, and she was going to have a baby with her soulmate.
What could possibly happen?
