You close your left eye looking down the barrel, into the town of Baharak. The wind brushing over your body as it laid in the tall hay, your face laced with specs of dirt with your curls stuck to the sweat that seeped from your pores.Your mission was to take out Ghost. A seeming impossible task; He was a hard man to find. Intel of a tall muscular male with a skull mask seen in the outskirts of the city bringing you right to this spot.
100 meters out, your barrel aimed through the dry shrubs, shards of grass obstructing your view. You carefully readjust, scouting the city from the Rocky Mountains. "What do you see Y/N?" Your brother Vin asked while laying on his abdomen next to you. His fingers curling the binoculars firmly to his face.
"Nothing yet." Swaying your hips feeling the rocks beneath you bore into your skin. "We should see something by now." Vins tone was impatient. Your face peals back from the scope to glance at your him, a smart remark scratching behind your lips to be said. Instead you inhale deeply moving your eyes back to your scope.
"Got something!" The grip on your sniper tightens. "Where? I don't see anything." Vins eyes darting around the town. "NE 70 meters, at the strawberry stand." There he stood in all his glory, a tall figure with a baclava, his skull mask sitting right over it. Straps laced over his jeans surrounded by a thick unit of soldiers.
"Don't get antsy. We watch for now." You nodded placing your cross hairs at his head. Seemingly unaware of his life at the mercy of his enemy. He began to walk and you followed, until he abruptly stopped.
Your heart raced at the sudden loss of movement. His head turned first, before his eyes followed. "What is he doing?" Vins voice growing worrisome. You didn't respond, only able to watch as your heart thumped in your ears. Your finger curling the trigger in anticipation.
His eyes met yours though the scope. His full body facing you now, standing still, as if to give you a clean shot. "Cocky bastard." You mumble cocking your sniper back, aiming 5 notches above his head. "Don't, you'll give our position away." He demanded.
"Fuck that, he thinks we won't kill him." He stuck a bit of fear in you, an unsettling feeling you've never felt before. "Fuck, Y/N. That's an order!"
"Tsk." Frustrated you rise to your knees packing your sniper up. "Where you going?" His eyes leaving the binoculars. "I'm heading back. If we aren't going to kill him, what are we doing here??" Your hands moved as you spoke.
"He killed our leader, burned our city." Your hate ran deep with in you. "We scout, we plan, we execute." He placed his hand on your shoulder. "We don't just run in clueless. A shot off now would send the whole US army our way." You swiped his arm away. "Let them come them." He chuckled.
"You have a death wish or something?" He shook his head packing up his gear. You glance back at the town in the distance. Ghost was there. "Your our leader now, so lead. Stop making decisions based on emotions." He pushed the sniper into your chest. "It's your biggest flaw." You gripped the rifle before it fell with Vin walking off.
The long trek back to your camp gave you time to think, your brother's words lingered; Maybe he should lead instead. You walked into the boundaries that held your people, short greetings passed your way as you made your way to your tent.
A moment of solace needed to calm the doubts of your leadership. Haunted by your inability to serve, freezing at the sight of your mother's beheading only a couple years ago.
Wishing you had the strength you did now to prevent such a tragic death. You slid on to your make shift bed rolling on your side drifting to sleep.
Your eyes snap open to the sound of gunpowder igniting. You twist your body reaching your gun and aiming it at the entrance of your tent hearing heavy steps approaching. "Y/N!!! There attacking!" Vin unzipped your tent, his eyes widening to the barrel of your gun. "They're attacking, we must leave."
You lower your weapon, pushing your knees to your feet. "What is happening?" You quickly follow him through your camp. The cry's and whimpers of your men filling your ears. You froze at the blood shed, a quick nap was all it took for 80% of your men to be slaughtered.
Filled with rage you ran towards the multiple single shots, the sound of executions. Vin digs his fingers into your arm preventing you from meeting your sure death if you went further. "Let me go!"
"No! We need to leave! Now!" He continued to pull you in the opposite direction. Your face drowned in tears of your friends and family dying before you. Running again like a coward. A man appearing at the every end of your sight. That skull mask.
