I looked to meet eye to eye with her crystal blue eyes. She stares off into the distance, admiring the view in front of us, but that's not what I'm admiring. Verona is the one I admire. She is the mesmerizing view. I softly smile and turn my head to see the glowing sunset over the ocean. I wrap my arms around her figure and pull her closer. She leans her head on my chest, hopefully, she doesn't notice that my heart is beating faster than usual. "I love you," she spoke in a whisper.
"I love you always," I said back, giving her a kiss on the top of her head. The sun slowly sinks into the ocean, allowing the moon to awaken. I take a deep breath and pull back to lock eyes with her. "You okay?" She asks with confusion on her face.
"I'm alright love" I chuckle nervously for a second, " I need to confess something to you."
I could see her expression change to be concerned, "Alright, what is it?"
Positioning our bodies to make us stand face to face with each other and holding both of her hands in front of us, down by our waist. I locked eyes with her and said, "Verona, you know how much I love you. Since the first time I met you, you had me hooked." Her face quickly changed to show her beautiful smile. "Every memory we shared, I've cherished and can not wait any longer. I want you to be the one I spend my time with, even if we watch movies on the couch or cuddle in bed for hours. I want to get old and gray with you by my side." I take a deep breath and take in this moment for one last time. I can see that her eyes fill with water. I reach my hand out to cradle her cheek and use my thumb to brush away any tears in her eyes. I lowered myself on one knee and grabbed a hold of the hand I let go.
"Verona Ann Johnston, will you please make me the happiest man alive" I let go of her hands, reached into my inner jacket pocket, and pulled out the ring box. Opening the box to show her the crystalized ring, customized to her liking, and continued with, " Will you marry me?" I can see the total shock on her face. Her hands jolt up to cover her mouth and nose.
"Yes!" She replied in an eager manner, "Of course, I want to marry you!" She drops to the ground and hugs me tightly. I embrace her with a hug, and we both share multiple kisses. As we stood up, I picked her up and spun her around. Hearing her laugh makes everything all worth it. I put her down and gave her a peck on the lips. I reached for the ring in the box and asked for her hand. She extended her arm and stuck out her ring finger. I held her hand and slid the ring on her ring finger. She squeals out of excitement and jumps at me for a hug. I pull her close and lean my head on top of her. I close my eyes and smile, knowing I will spend the rest of my life with my true love.
