Evie pulled Mal's shoulders back, so she could stand up straight. "Ungh!" Mal groaned, "Oh!" and moaned in pain after Evie tightened the strings on her dress. Mal gasped and spoke up, "Okay, Evie, I cannot breathe." Evie smiled and held up her friend's left arm gently, "Well, you can breathe after Cotillion." She said. Mal sighed and brushed a strand of her blonde hair away from her face, "I sincerely doubt that. I have at least 20 more events directly behind it. And I can't even remember what a single one of them is." Evie gazed at the dress she had put on Mal, "Oh." She kissed both of her hands with her eyes closed in admiration of it, "Impeccable." Mal stared at her purple jacket that was hanging on a coat stand, before turning towards her best friend, "Evie?" She said, "Hmm?" Evie replied as she put a tape measure around Mal's waist, "Do you ever think about what we'd be doing if we were back on the isle right now?" She asked, and Evie chuckled, "That's funny." Suddenly the news channel came up on the TV, "Ah, look who's on TV." Evie said in a singsong voice, while Mal stared at it with a grimace, and chuckled sarcastically. Mal sat down as the news reporter talked about her and Ben's dinner with Aladdin and Jasmine. Mal watched with a terrified expression, "Six months ago, no one thought King Ben and his girlfriend from the wrong side of the bridge would last." Mal chuckled again but with a bit more sincere sarcasm, "Yeah, no kidding." She then looked at her nails and gasped, remembering what else she had to do. She plopped back down on Evie's bed, and picked up Maleficent's spellbook, turning the pages and found the right page she was looking for, "Read it fast, at lightning speed, remember everything I need." Then she closed the book, and pulled out a hardcover book of "How to be a princess.", so she could read it super fast.
Evie took notice of this a couple minutes before, and went up to her friend, putting her hands on her hips as she spoke with disappointment, "I know Mal's secret of fitting in and Ben wouldn't like it one bit."
She gently grabbed the poles of her bed, Mal ignored Evie and continued to read fast, "Haven't you guys had enough secrets between the two of you already?" She asked, in a motherly tone of voice. Mal was quick to respond, "Evie, you remember what I was like before I started using my spell book. I mean, I was a complete disaster." Evie tilted her head a bit, "Well, personally, as your best friend, I strongly believe that this spell book..." "Ah!" Mal exclaimed as Evie slowly tried to take it away from her, and she continued, "It belongs in the museum along with my mirror." Mal put the red cover book down and gave Evie an upset look, "Don't give me the face." Evie warned her, Mal pouted like an upset child, "Put the pout away." Evie warned her again, and Mal turned her head slightly, "Mmm-hmm, you know I'm right.", Mal turned her head away from Evie, before she turned it back and asked her, "You don't ever miss just running wild and breaking all of the rules?" Evie raised an eyebrow, "Like stealing and lying and fighting?" She asked, "Yeah." Mal smiled, "No." Evie replied sincerely, "What?" Mal said with confusion, Evie chuckled, "Why would we?" She moved closer to her, "M. come here", Mal scoffed, as Evie took both of her hands, helped her off the bed and walked with her towards the middle of the room. "Look at where we are. We're in Auradon. And we're Auradon girls now." She said, trying to cheer up her friend, but Mal's face of discontent still showed. The news show still talked about Mal and Ben, showing the two of them eating strawberries on one of their dates, Evie squealed with happiness and hugged her, "See? This is the land of opportunity. We can be whatever we want to be here." She said with confidence, but Mal looked down, she wasn't so sure. "So please." Evie shook her gently, trying to get Mal to smile, "Let's just leave the past in the past, okay?" She whispered sweetly to her, as Mal looked at her with uncertainty, but Evie smiled at her. "Besides..." she said, "I mean, look at the shoes." She said as she picked up the yellow and blue shoes that came with Mal's cotillion dress. "Look at them." "Severe." Mal added, and Evie laughed.
