And I said "It's how you grow up. If you raise a child constantly saying "you're amazing, I love you, you're great, you're smart, you'll do great things" then they grow up thinking that about themselves, and they grow up thinking that they're amazing and a good person, but if you raise them saying "you're stupid, you're autistic, you're bipolar, you're fat, you're ugly, I hate you" then they'll just grow up to think those things and they genuinely think that about themselves."
And then she said "well he wasn't your parent, why would you listen?"
"It doesn't matter if it's your parent, your sister, your brother, the kids at school, or the cousin that you see once a year on fuckin Christmas. If it keeps getting told to you as you grow and learn, and hear that about yourself, you'll think about that, and you'll start to genuinely believe that's what you are."
And then she went quiet
