"Do you really think this was a good idea?"
I whispered to Choso, who walked quietly beside me. As expected, I earned nothing more than a low hum in response. Turning my head for the third time on the way to the ice rink, I checked on the rest of the group trailing behind us-Hanami, Eso, Mahito, and Kenjaku. Predictably, Mahito was bouncing around like an overexcited puppy, his chaotic energy nearly contagious. I shuddered at the thought of how grateful I was that non-sorcerers couldn't see his antics.
With a small sigh, I glanced back at Choso, who noticed but kept his gaze forward.
"You shouldn't worry so much about them," he said in that raspy, tired voice of his, a slight effort to soothe me. "They promised they wouldn't cause any chaos."
This wasn't going at all how I'd planned-not even close. My original idea was simple and sweet: ask Choso out and show him what ice skating was all about. When I explained it to him back at the estate, he didn't understand much about the concept. Of course, it made sense; he was from another era entirely.
But my plans went downhill fast when Mahito overheard our conversation. Before I could stop him, he declared he wanted to come, and no amount of excuses about his troublemaking tendencies could dissuade him. He begged and begged until, against my better judgment, I caved. Now, here we were-me, Choso, and three other uninvited companions.

"Guys! Guys! Look over there! Y/N, is that the place you were talking about?"
Mahito's voice rang out, practically vibrating with excitement, as he bolted ahead to the ice rink before I could even answer. The rest of us followed at a more sedate pace, finally settling on a bench near the enormous rink. Children, adults, and couples glided across the ice with varying degrees of grace, laughing and enjoying the music that played softly in the background.
