When the dust settled, Clive transformed to his normal size and looked out the window. Fittingly, it had began to rain. Casualties from both sides were lying lifeless in a puddle of blood, but the remaining Black Shields had chosen to surrender and vowed a new allegiance to the new archduke of Rosaria under a different air of opinions...that all bearers would be free, of slavery, of persecution and everything else.
Clive went downstairs to announce his mother's death and it was met by a chorus of cheers and a shocked silence from Sylvestre and Olivier, who sat in silence, mourning and out of power...spiritually. Cid walked up to him and broke the cheers into silence.
"It is time."
He gestured Clive to the throne. A throne of power once sat on by his father, once reserved for Joshua and now it was all his. Clive took the seat, feeling a bit out of place, but he soon got used to it in a few seconds flat, feeling like the true king at last.
The cheers that followed were louder then before and when they had died down, Clive announced, as his first official act as ruler that the land would be restored to it's former glory and all bearers would be free.
It was still raining by the time they started, but only a sprinkle compared to the prior downpour. Clive watched the reconstruction as mortals and Bearers from all parts of Valisthea did their part by repairing the damages and planting new seeds for trees that would grow all different kinds of fruit, also new homes for animals as well. Clive walked on, happy with everything in sight. He craned his head upwards, letting the rain drench his face.
An opening in the clouds appeared, revealing the moon and the red star of Metia. Clive could have easily guessed that they were Joshua and Elwin looking down at him.
"Welcome home, Clive," they said.
Clive smiled at the spirits of the family he cherished the most and very soon, his tears were mixed with the rain.
About a year later, on a very special morning in he middle of the year, when the land was good and green again, the populace of Rosaria gathered at the palace to celebrate the birth of a new duke who became the next Phoenix. Clive and Jill watched with pride as their son, named Joshua in honor of his uncle, was greeted by the many nobles who he would come to know in the many long years to come.
