"There isn't any change since the last time you all came" doctor Stevens said looking at a  piece of paper

"Well that's good right? I Mean that means that it isn't getting worse right"? My mom asked rubbing my back

"Not necessarily. We dont want it to stay this way we want it to go away completely."

"Well what else can we do? Go threw treatment again?"

"She's already been in treatment three times Mrs.Connors it isn't working so I was thinking to send her to Pennsylvania to a doctor that specializes in helping teens with cancer"

"Pennsylvania? I guess we could try that.....what do you think ruby?" My step dad asked

I shrugged

"Does it matter?" I asked closing my book

"What do you mean 'does it matter'?! Rubina this is your life we're talking about" my mother said taking her hand off my back

(Rubina pronounced Roo-bee-na)

"Yes it is my life so don't I have a say on what I want to do? I don't want to go to Pennsylvania so a new doctor can do exactly what your doing to me here" I told my doctor

"Your under eighteen therefore I decide what to do with you"  My mother said standing up and pacing

"You know its going to happen sooner or later mother I'm trying to prepare you now so it won't be so hard later" 

The room became silent as my mother started to cry on Brian's shoulder  (step dad)

I huffed then looked down at my shortened nails

"I'm sorry mom I didnt mean to make you cry" I mumbled

"We're going to Pennsylvania and that's the last word" she said through tears grabbing her purse then leaving the room

"I should probably go after her." Brian mumbled grabbing his coat and heading to the door

"Meet us in the car Rubina"

I nodded still looking down

"You know you can be a little bit nicer to your mother" Mr.Stevens said

"I know....it just comes out sometimes. I don't mean to make her cry but let's face it I'm going to die."

"You don't know that"

I looked up into his bright green eyes

"I do. If I wasn't going to die then I wouldn't have cancer"

"Listen Rubina-"

"Doc you know I hate that name"

He rolled his eyes and walked over to me

"Listen RUBY you can't think like that you have to be positive"

"Whats there to be positive about?" 

"You have a loving family and a baby sister on the way be happy about that"

"I guess so...I should probably go"

"Yea you should. Come back tomorrow and I'll give you and your parents the details about Pennsylvania"

I nodded

"Alright"

I got my book and my jacket and headed out the room we meet in

"Hi ruby heading out?" Mrs. Downfield the janitor asked as I pressed the elevator door
