The hum of machines filled the security room, their droning noise a constant reminder of the data processing underway. The dim glow from the multiple screens cast long shadows across the room, accentuating the tension in the air. Samantha entered quietly, her eyes scanning the room until they landed on Sarah, who was hunched over a console, her fingers tapping away at the keyboard with a mixture of frustration and determination.

"Anything new?" Samantha asked, trying to keep the hope in her voice from sounding too desperate.

Sarah glanced up, her face etched with the exhaustion of hours spent combing through digital files. She shook her head, a sigh escaping her lips. "No, nothing. Just the footage we already found of Detective Ramirez. Whoever wiped the rest knew exactly what they were doing. It's like they covered their tracks before we even knew to look." She hesitated for a moment before adding, "I've been digging into the system, and it looks like the breach was external. I can't trace it from here—it's as if they hacked in, erased everything, and vanished without a trace."

Samantha sighed, the weight of their situation pressing down on her. The video they had was crucial but incomplete. She needed more if they were going to make any headway in identifying the masked intruder or understanding their motives.

Reaching for her phone, she quickly dialed Dr. Parker. As the line connected, she felt a sense of urgency rise within her. She needed to give Dr. Parker an update, even if the news wasn't what they had hoped for.

Samantha absorbed the news, her mind already working through the implications as she pulled out her phone and dialed. "Dr. Parker, it's Sam," she began, her tone professional but tinged with the weariness of the day. "We're still at the precinct, but there's nothing new. Sarah's done everything she can—whoever wiped the footage was thorough. The breach was external, and we can't trace it from here."

She paused, listening intently, her eyes narrowing as she absorbed whatever Dr. Parker was saying on the other end of the line. Samantha's gaze flicked back to the monitors, the digital images almost mocking in their silence.

"Yeah, we have the footage of Carlos," she continued, "but that's it. No sign of the masked intruder, no additional feeds, nothing else that we can use to identify them. It's like they were never here."

Another pause. Sarah watched her, anxiously waiting for any sign of a breakthrough from Samantha's conversation.

"I know," Samantha replied, her voice softening slightly. "But we can't afford to overlook any possibility. There might be something we're missing, something small but crucial... No, Sarah's already checked every angle, every possible entry point in the precinct. It's all been scrubbed."

The frustration in her voice was apparent as she paced the room, her free hand running through her hair. "I understand, but if we don't find something soon, we're going to be at a dead end."

There was a long silence as Samantha listened to Dr. Parker's response. Finally, she nodded, though the action was more for herself than anyone else. "Alright, I'll have Sarah wrap up here—there's nothing more she can do from the precinct. Our next move will have to be outside. We're hoping someone out there caught something on their cameras that can give us a lead."

With that, Samantha hung up, the sense of urgency lingering in the room. She turned to Sarah, determination hardening her features. "Let's pack up, but I need you to head back to the office. See if there's anything you can find from there. If this breach was external, we need to dig deeper into who could have accessed the footage remotely."

Sarah nodded, gathering her things with a mix of frustration and resolve. "I'll get on it as soon as I'm back."

As Sarah left, Samantha made her way through the precinct out to the command unit, searching for Detective Ramirez and Officer Jacobs. She found them near the entrance, discussing their next steps in hushed tones.
