You sat pondering your situation as you twirled your spoon around aimlessly in the now empty bowl of ice cream. You'd needed that. The ice cream. You'd been so stressed earlier, you'd felt like you might've exploded at the next thing that moved.

But as soon as the cold, creamy dessert had hit your tongue, you'd known everything was going to be okay. That is just how ice cream works.

Sighing, you knew that despite the return calm to your existence, you still had a problem to deal with. And that problem was Jade Harley.

You'd been friends with the girl since you were both children. You had practically grown up with her, and always felt like there was a bond between you that exceeded friendship.

Up until about a month ago, you'd thought it was like the bond between sisters. Who could have thought that it had been something more than that.

Flash back: One month and two days ago

You gripped the handle of the broom fiercely, looking out at the immense mess of popcorn and spilled sodas that awaited you. You'd taken a job at the local movie theater in hopes of making some summer money, but you'd had no idea that they started off all their employees by making them clean the theaters after shows.

You'd been there for a month already, and your manager still showed no signs of reassigning your working position.

Sighing to yourself, you slowly got to work sweeping up a pile of empty candy wrappers that were at your feet.

Suddenly, you heard the door at the top of the theater burst open, yellowish light casting shadows across the deserted movie room. You looked up to see Jade standing at the door, looking around almost anxiously.

Her eyes fell on yours, and a smile lit up her features. "Oh! [y/n]! There you are! The man at the counter said that I would find you here, but still I wasn't sure if..."

"J-Jade? What are you doing here?" you stammered, shocked by your friend's surprise visit. The girl smiled as she slowly made her way down the aisle towards you. "I thought it would be nice to pick you up from work," she said cheerfully.

You smiled back, a warm feeling sprouting inside your chest. That was one thing you liked about Jade, she was always so considerate. Unlike some of your other obnoxious friends.

But the elated feeling in your chest soon fell to a feeling of dread that lodged itself at the pit of your stomach. "Ah man, Jade, I can't! The last show just ended, and now I have to completely clean the theater! It's going to take at least an hour..."

You looked around at the mess that you were going to have to clean before you left, a feeling of sadness spreading through your body. You felt Jade had come all this way for nothing, or at the very most, just to wait around for you to finish.

"Well, then let me help you!" Jade said with a laugh.

"R-really?" you said, equally shocked and excited at your friend's offer. "You'd really help me clean up all this? Oh my gosh Jade, you're the best!" You ran up to her, hugging her tightly.
