Chapter 3

APRIL

Saturday 24 October 9:53 AM

I currently have no desire to get up. It's been a few minutes since my alarm went off and I'm still under the blanket, in the dark.

I planned to do nothing today anyway, so why not sleep? I hope Daph doesn't have anything planned either, we could get to know the others. All I did all week was work and I haven't even finished unpacking my boxes yet.

I finally get up. I grab a sweater and go out.

I see Daph sitting on the couch. There is no one else.

"You're already up?"

"Yeah, I had a hard time falling back asleep after the cat..." She tells me.

"And the others are sleeping or out?"

"I don't know, I just got up twenty minutes ago."

I walk around the kitchen's island and make myself a coffee.

I come back and sit on the couch next to her.

"Have something planned for today?"

If she asks me, she probably has nothing to do either.

"Nothing, but I thought we could get to know the guys and set up some rules to avoid problems we already had. By the way, Matthew invited me to a party at his house. I'm allowed to bring someone, do you want to come?"

"I don't know... You know that I don't like all that... stuff." She complains.

"Come on, it will be just the two of us and a few people."

"A few people?" She raises an eyebrow.

"Well, I don't know how many people will be there, but it will be fun."

"You say that every time and it often turns into a nightmare. Either you drink a little too much, and... I don't need to explain you know very well what happened already. Or it's the others who are going crazy."

"Come on, at least you can watch me and make sure I don't drink too much." I smile at her with all my teeth.

"Okay..." She finally gives in.

I let out a yell of joy that echoes in all the apartment.

"Shut up, you're gonna wake up everyone if they're sleeping." She whispers to me.

I run to my room to get my phone and tell Matthew.

HERMES

10:05 AM

I am awakened from my sleep by a high-pitched scream from outside the room.

This is not gonna work.

I sit down on my bed and grab my phone to turn off the alarm that was supposed to go off at 10:30 am. I won't be able to get back to sleep anyway.

I grab a short and a sweater before heading outside.

The sun shining in the living room is so strong that it almost blinds me. Since when is the sun visible in London?

There is a girl on the couch, a brunette. She is holding a cup in her hands and looking out the bay window. She turns abruptly to me and then gives me a shy smile. She probably didn't notice me as soon as I walked into the room.

"Is it you who screams like that?" I ask.

"Oh no sorry it's April, she's a bit, always very energetic... Sorry if she woke you up..." She explains, and I look at her face.

She has freckles. A lot of freckles on the cheeks, and the nose.

"It's done, I-" Another girl emerges from the corridor, and stops dead in her tracks the moment she realizes I am here.

A silence of a few seconds settles.

She shows a light smile and then goes to sit next to the brunette.

I should ask her, her first name, I'm not going to call her the brunette every time.

I head for the kitchen but notice that there is no more coffee. They could have at least made some more.

The only noise we hear in the room is the TV.

I stay in the kitchen on a chair at the island and pull out my phone.

DAPHNEE

10:25 AM

It's been quite a while since anyone has spoken and this show is starting to bore me. I can feel April's embarrassment, I could smell it a mile away.

I hear the lock on the front door open. Everyone turns around and keeps their eyes on the door.

Lennon walks in and gently closes the door behind him. He turns around and freezes in place the moment he sees that we were in the room.

He has brown hair, rather dark and has a thin face.

He walks over to the fridge and pulls out a sandwich before sitting down on one of the chairs on the island.

The other dark-haired guy is still sitting on a chair.
Or does he have black hair? I can't tell if it's black or brown.

April gets up from the couch and walks over to the window. She reaches for her pack of cigarettes and takes one out.

Oh no, it will stink up the whole place.

Frankly, I don't understand the morals of people who smoke, they pay for something that kills them slowly.

"Can you go outside or at least somewhere isolated? It's going to smell in the apartment..."

"Don't worry, I'll stay at the window and leave it open after." She answers, without even turning around.

I let a sigh leave my mouth.

HERMES

10:45 AM

"So, did you talk with them?" Lee asks me.

"Nope."

"Guys, this is Hermes." He says pointing at me.

"April," The black haired one at the window announces.

And I instantly notice her right eye. A brown stain stands out of the blue. Or green I don't know. Blue, I think it's light blue. Her left one is only blue, but a darker tone.

"Daphnée." The brunette says, looking at me.

"How old are you by the way?" April asks, letting the smoke out of her mouth.

"We're twenty." Lennon responds.

"Almost, I'll turn twenty soon." I correct him.

LENNON

10:52 AM

My phone rings and everyone turns to me.

"Sorry, I have to pick up." I go to my room, at the end of the corridor on the right. "Yes?"

"Hi honey, how is it going? You had a great week?" She asks.

"Hi mom, I'm good, actually Hermes and I went back from the vacation early. You?"

"I'm good, Leïla and Greg too."

"How does Leïla feel? Is she better?"

"Yes, we do the best we can to help her."

"Tell her I miss her please."

"I will, how is it going with your new roommates?"

"Yeah, we introduced ourselves this morning and for the moment it's fine."

"It's great, sorry honey, I'll have to leave you. I need to run some errands."

"No problem, kiss everyone."

"Bye Lee."

"Bye mom." I pick up the phone and return to the living room.
