Life was predictable, and Valentina realized it a little later than she should've.

She was ten years old when burying her mother and although the Bernardi family tried to remember the women for her very few acts of kindness, of nationalities Valentina recollected her progenitures' for what she really was.

A liar, a scammer, a thief, a terrible mother and an even worse wife who was delighted to have a husband that (despite everything) came home every night – at least till the day he abandoned her for a younger and prettier version of herself.

Now that she was the one being cheated on, life wasn't that fun anymore, and neither was walking around town and being laughed at by her previous lover's wife's.

She couldn't fucking stand it or understand how her husband survived that shame for years, how he could get up every single morning and muter that hopeful "I love you" every single time for a god-damn decade.

And of course, she did not last without him, without his unconditional and divine adoration, and ended it all like her mother and her mother's mother.

Valentina was only his father's daughter for a very long time, but one-day death took him from her too.

Now she was no one's daughter, and the feeling was liberating for a while, until temptation knocked on her doors, tacking the shape of a charming doctor, making Tina realize she was more like her mother than she ever thought or wished to be and that there was no way she was outrunning neither nature, nurture or HIM.
