'Keep Your Enemies Closer' is a dark romantasy, but I also see it as a story of acceptance and growth. It's about how life is more than how you look and you don't need to be beautiful to experience all that life has to offer - love, friends and success. It also explores the way people act around you depending on your appearance and how it is influenced. It's a journey of a young girl who's gone through a dark time gaining her self esteem, confidence and worth.

It's also a story warning the dangers of selfishness and entitlement and how it can be your downfall.

I got the inspiration for the book when seeing so many stories about girls competing for a Prince's hand in marriage (such as the Selection) but thought that it'd be interesting with a dark twist - the female main character has to kill the Prince when she secures his hand for fear of losing her beauty. I thought it'd be an interesting concept to write about and it has been so far.
