Tracy Reyes's POV:

I woke up to the beeping of my alarm. I groaned and covered my ears with a pillow. Then realizing what day it was, I suddenly clambered out of bed excitedly like a kid on Christmas and quickly put on my glasses.

I sat on my bed and gazed in the mirror with a dreamy look on my face as I brushed my long jet-black hair.

"Today's the day," I murmured to myself.

The day I'll confess to her. When we're alone, I'll tell her everything. The day I fell for her, how I feel every time I see her, every single detail.

Finally dressed in sky-blue jeans, a comfy white sweater, my hair in a half up half down hairstyle with a white ribbon tied in a bow. I headed downstairs to have breakfast.

My brother sat at the table munching his toast hungrily. He glanced up at me as I walked into the kitchen humming a tune to myself.

"Why are you dressed so nicely? It's just another day of sixth-form for you, are you seeing someone or something?" He asked, mouth full of toast.

I smiled as I grabbed a plate and sliced a bagel in half with a bread knife. "Something like that," I replied, not wanting to give too much away.

My brother raised his eyebrows and then laughed. "Hah, I never thought I'd see the day." He scoffed as he got up and brushed the crumbs from his school uniform.

I crossed my arms and rolled my eyes at him. I then turned back to my bagel which had been toasted a perfect golden brown. Spreading a thin layer of margarine on top, I took a bite and smiled to myself.

Normally he'd get on my nerves, but today I look forward to seeing Melissa so much that not even he can darken my mood.

Outside of Melissa's House...

I walked down the street the sun shining on my long jet-black hair. Finally, I arrived at Melissa's house, which was golden brick and surrounded by rose bushes. I took my phone out of my jeans pocket and rang Melissa who picked up instantly.

"I'm outside, you almost ready?" I asked cheerfully.

"Yup! Just finishing with my hair, I'll be down in a minute or two." She replied cheerfully back.

After a few minutes, I heard her shut her door and sprint down the stairs. She then opened the front door and walked towards me.

I couldn't help but gasp. Melissa was breathtakingly beautiful. Her long golden hair streamed down her shoulders and she wore an Adidas tracksuit and pristine black trainers. She had fair skin which glowed in the rays of the sun. Seeing me standing near the rose bushes, she gave me a small smile.

"Wow... you look beautiful Melissa! I love what you've done with your hair." I complimented her, as we began walking to sixth-form.

She flushed clearly delighted at my compliment. "Thank you! I spent a lot of time trying to sort it out, it's not easy having hair like mine you know." She replied before letting out a chuckle.

I could feel my cheeks burning as she let out that chuckle. Even the sound of her laughter was beautiful, like a sweet melody.

Suddenly remembering what I wanted to tell her, I cleared my throat which caught her attention. She stared waiting for me to speak, causing my cheeks to redden even more.

"B-By the way... I need to tell you something. Could I talk to you alone in the school courtyard today?" I stammered.

Not taking any notice of my burning cheeks, Melissa nodded. "Of course, I look forward to hearing what this is about." She replied, making my cheeks redden even more.

A few hours later at the Sixth Form...

I could hear my heart beating rapidly as I walked with Melissa to the school's courtyard. It was time. I felt so nervous that my heart continued to thump rapidly, like a bird's wing against the glass.

Eventually reaching the school courtyard, our walking came to an abrupt stop. Melissa turned towards me, the sun hitting her golden locks. "So, what did you want to tell me?" She asked, expectantly.

I took a deep breath and straightened my glasses. "You can do this Tracey, this is the moment you've been waiting for. You can't mess this up." I thought to myself.

"Melissa, I've liked you for a while now. Ever since we met in Secondary School, I've always felt so safe, so comfortable with you. I've never felt anything like this for anyone, until now. Will you be my girlfriend?" I confessed, a blush creeping on my cheeks.

Crickets chirped as I waited for Melissa's response. I felt anxious as I expectantly waited for her response. I glanced up to see the smile on her face from a minute ago had faded.

Suddenly, all feelings of excitement dissipated replaced with dread. "Tracey... how do I say this without sounding harsh...?" She replied, letting out a nervous laugh.

She leaned towards me and patted me lightly on the shoulder. "Listen, I'm flattered, to say the least. But, I just don't like you in that way. I'm sorry, I hope we can still be friends." She said.

My heart sank. Her words: "I just don't like you in that way." echoed in my ears. I felt tears threatening to spill from my eyes and nauseous. I took a deep breath before responding: "Yeah, no worries. That's fine, yeah we can.... still be friends I'm sorry if I made you uncomfortable."

Melissa gave me a small smile. "I knew you'd understand!"

I nodded. But inside, I willed for the ground to swallow me.
