Hey y'all, back for chapter two! I'm super excited! Now, I know what it's like to get all the forms you have to fill out for an event that you're going to and it says you have to put your rank abbreviation, and you just sit there looking at it going, "huh?" Or the frustration of seeing a rank abbreviated and having absolutely no clue what rank you're looking at. So in this chapter I am going to be listing all the all of the ranks, in order with there abbreviations. Let's get started!
Cadet Airmen basic(C/AB) This is the rank you are when you join.
Cadet Airmen (C/Amn) This is the first rank you earn.
Cadet Airmen First Class(C/A1C) This rank is very affectionately refried to as A1C.
Cadet Senior Airmen(C/SRA) At this point in time you are finishing up phase 1 and starting to study for your Wright Brothers
Cadet Staff Sergeant(C/SSgt) The Wright Brothers is named for Orval and Wilber Wright and is the first milestone in the cadet program and the beginning of the NCO(Non Commissioned Officer) ranks. This is generally the minimum rank required for applying for staff positions, though some squadrons/activities will require a higher rank.
Cadet Technical Sergeant(C/TSgt) Commonly referred to as Tech sergeant, this rank is the beginning of phase 2.
Cadet Master Sergeant(C/MSgt) This is, according to the Staff Handbook(CAPP 60-31), the minimum rank for First Sergeants although most First Sergeants are C/SMSgt or C/CMSgt.
Cadet Senior Master Sergeant(C/SMSgt) This is my current rank.
Cadet Chief Master Sergeant(C/CMSgt) This is the last NCO rank and when you start studying for your Billy Mitchell.
Cadet Second Lieutenant(C/2d Lt) The Billy Mitchell is the second milestone and the first officer rank.
Cadet First Lieutenant(C/1st Lt) Why you earn your 2nd Lt before your 1st Lt I don't know. If you know or have any ideas, please comment I'm very curious.
Cadet Captain(C/Capt) This is the Amelia Earhart award and the third milestone of the cadet program.
Cadet Major(C/Maj) This is a rank in between two very important milestones.
Cadet Lieutenant Colonel(C/Lt Col) This is the last rank before your Spattz.
Cadet Colonel(C/Col) This is the highest rank a cadet can achieve in the Civil Air Patrol. This is the last rank and the forth and final milestone.
I hope this chapter has been helpful. I got all of the abbreviations from CAPR 35-5 and CAPR 52-16. Please let me know if you have any questions. Also if you have any suggestions about future chapters let me know, I would love to hear them. I was thinking about doing the next chapter either on Uniforms, Customs and Courtesies, or Core Values, I can't decide so if you have a preference please comment. In conclusion, stay safe and soar high!
