"We are going to see Albert. You must be quiet not a word," mom said sternly. I nodded I don't like Albert that much. I'm not excited for this in the slightest.
We approached a big house it was very dark. It was a lot darker than the rest of the houses. It smelled really bad. Like old man and rusted nails. Mother went ahead and opened the door. It was pitch black inside. I couldn't see a thing. Which kind of freaked me out.
My mom grabbed my hand and pulled me along. Walking in the dark was hard enough but we had to walk up stairs...
It hurt. I bet I have a lot of bruises. But after an eternity of walking, we survived the stairs.
I heard a door open. Mom probably opened it. This room had a window and the windows let natural light in. I could finally see!!
I saw a young man in front of an older man. The young man looked very... attractive. In a straight way!!
The young man had dark hair that looked shining brown in the light . It was slightly fluffy and framed his head perfectly.
Unfortunately I only saw him for a moment.
"What you want Rose?" He said.
I realized he must be Rowan.
The older man took a step forward and put a hand on Rowan's shoulder, "we can talk later."
Rowan nodded and disappeared.
I was so close to seeing his face! He should at least show me his face after trying to kill me!
"Rowan told me a bit about Rory. You came for my blessing correct?" the old man who I assumed was Albert said.
"His father passed away recently and he asked to stay with me. I want to make sure he is safe. If possibleI would like you to help me protect him if you can," mum said politely.
Albert thought for a moment, "Tell me boy do you have any bitter feelings towards Rowan?"
"Honestly, I don't know. But his music is really nice," I replied.
Albert nodded and called, "Rowan come here for a moment."
mother crossed her arms in disagreement . Rowan mysteriously appeared again. No idea where he came from but it was cool nevertheless. "But d- sir" Rowan said.
I could see the front of his face this time. He has a rectangular face with glasses. He had wonderful banbs. And the blackest eyes. He glared at me.
"I want you to look after him," Albert said gesturing towards me.
Rowan glared at me harder," you want me to claim a human?" he said bitterly. Albert nodded, "is there a problem?"
"no sir..."
"Great then, can too can leave for a moment? I must talk with rose," Albert said.
Rowan nodded and in what seemed like an instant he took my hand and we were on the roof.
"Woah!" I said, "how did you?"
He pulled his hand away just crossed his arms and studied me with an annoyed expression.
"What's wrong? Surely you can't hate me? You just met me!"I said.
He sighed and sat down on the roof he whispered, "loweryour voice. Every vampire in town can hear you."
I looked at him confused.
He points to his ears like he thinks I'm dumb or something, "Vampires have heightened senses. Some more than others," he explained.
I sat down next to him and spoke, "Do you have good hearing then? Is that why you're so good at music?"
He glared at me, "I don't need to be a vampire to be good music... but yes I'm the best listener in town."
I smile I looked at his flute that he kept in the pocket of his jeacket, "Can You play me something?" I asked smiling.
He shook his head and took out his flute. He showed me a marking on the flute.
"What's that?" I asked touching the mark.
He pulled his flute away, "Don't touch! Your gross human scent will get on my flute... It's a rune. It makes it so that only vampires of a certain blood can hear the music."
Now it makes sense. That's why they were surprised when I could hear the music.
"Why can I hear it?" I Asked.
Rowan looked at his flute.
He brushed his thumb against the rune, "I don't know. The only explanation would be that an exorcist or a vampire hunter placed an anti vampire rune spell on you."
Exorcist...so those exist too...
Rowan looked at me with a serious expression, "Do you know any exorcist or vampire hunters?"
I shook my head, "I don't think I know any. If I did they didn't tell me."
"Hey.. Rowan" I began, "What are the different vampire runes?"
Rowan rolled his eyes and stared at the moon. I looked as well. I never really paid attention to the moon but it is so big here.
"Why is the moon so big?" I ask.
"A rune. Vampries draw energy from the moon just like werewolves. New bloods (vampires that were turned not born) don't have a strong connection with the moon. so it's meant mostly for Albert. I still find it pretty though," he replied.
I smiled this was a very peaceful moment. It's been a while since I've been able to genuinely smile. Dad would always stare at the moon. My smile faded without looking away from the moon.
Rowan spoke,"Do you not like the moon?"
This question caught me off guard. "since you're a vampire your dad is probably dead right?" I asked.
He looked at me with a judging expression, "Yes why?"
"Do you miss him?" I ask
He sighed "Of course I don't. I don't even remember him."
"Oh..." I looked at the ground.
"Humans... so ...Sentimental," he said annoyed.
"Can You Play a song?" I ask.
Rowen sighs and starts playing a song. The music is beautiful. The way he moved his fingers, his breath traveled smoothly, and his lips gently pressed against the top.
"What's the song called?" I said quietly. He looked at me and suddenly. Something was different about this expression. It wasn't angry or annoyed. It was...I couldn't stop myself. I crouched in front of him. I actually have no idea what I was doing. I pushed him so he was lying down and leaned over him.
"What are you-?" I pinned his arms down.
"Human answer me! Don't ignore me!" I leaned in closer and our lips touched. Surprisingly he didn't fight it.
