Portal scars

His hands were shaking after he closed the portal.

His hands were still shaking a week later.

His hands shook for months, whenever he tried to do anything.

Everything seemed so hopeless.

Mikey remembered what Splinter had told him about his hands.

"If you don't rest them, they will never get better."

He figured that his dad was probably right, but drawing was his passion. Mikey lowered his

pencil. His bandaged hands quivered as if he stuck them in an outlet. Mikey sighed. He hated

the bandages, they were itchy and tight. He knew that he didn't have it nearly as bad as his

brothers though. Leo was covered in bandages from head to toe. His arm was bound in a sling

and he had several bandages around his head and stomach. Even though he was in rough

shape, he seemed to be happy all the time. Even Donnie, whose sensitive soft shell was injured was pretty jovial.

But no matter how hard he tried, Doctor Feelings himself couldn't stop thinking about what happened that night.

Leo's sacrifice, the portal, Raph was kidnapped. He needed to make the portal he needed to save them!

Mikey shook off his intrusive thoughts. After all it happened two months ago, he should be able to forget about it by now.

But he couldn't  just forget about that night, not until the pain in his hands was gone.

Mikey woke up early the next morning to the sound of pipes squeaking and creaking. He

groaned. It was surprisingly hard to get used to the sounds of the pipes in the new lair. Nothing

in the new lair reminded him of home. The home that's gone, that the kraang destroyed. Mikey

brushed away those thoughts. Dr. Feelings can make it through anything! His alarm clock went

off a few seconds later. This time, Mikey stumbled out of bed, trying to seem refreshed even

though his night had been practically sleepless.

"It's a new morning. I'm sure today will be a great day!" Mikey mumbled to himself as he walked to the makeshift bathroom to brush his teeth.

Mikey heard a small voice coming from the room beside him.

"Michael why are you up? It's exactly 2:43 in the morning." Donnie whisper-yelled to Mikey from inside his room.

"I'm not tired, Donnie." Mikey groaned knowing that his older brother would force him to go back to bed, "What are you doing up?"

Donnie sauntered out the door wearing a housecoat and bunny slippers, "You were the one to interrupt my REM cycle Angelo. I could hear you talking to yourself all night long."

Mikey huffed. He thought he'd been a lot quieter. He was drawing most of the night, or I should say, trying to draw all night.

His hands were shaking and throbbing  as he tried in vain to draw a simple puppy.

He must have been talking to himself through the night, but he didn't seem to remember saying anything accept for "Why is this happening to me?"

He repeated that question over and over getting louder through the night. Until after an hour he finally collapsed onto his bed and went to sleep.

"Is there something you want to discuss Angelo?" Donnie said stiffly but kindly.

Mikey couldn't help but smile. Donnie was putting all the comforting skills Mikey'd  been teaching him to work.

As tempting as it was to talk about his feelings with Donnie, he felt like he would only burden Donnie with more.

He had gone through enough in the past few weeks.

"No I'm fine Donnie thanks for offering. I'm just gonna go back to bed."

Donnie smiled sympathetically at him, "Okay Michael, have a good rest." Donnie turned to leave, "Oh and also Dad's gonna take off your bandages today, he thinks your arms have finished the healing process."

Mikey nearly jumped for joy. He squealed excitedly and ran back to his bedroom. He couldn't

believe he was finally going to have his bandages off that day! It had been so long since he'd

seen his hand in all of its glory.

Mikey couldn't help but yell at the top of his lungs.

"FREEDOM!!! WOO-HOO!!!"
