LGBTQ+ PRIDE SHORT STORY

In a time long past, a kingdom was created with the purpose of uniting people under the love for books. The rulers of said kingdom formed rules, meant to keep order. Some were simple; no poaching, no sexual acts, etc.

And most importantly, the golden rule: No bigotry.

However, many did not follow this golden rule. They formed cults all over the kingdom, sending informants to preach to citizens in the commonplace. Most were open about their opposition... though, some weren't.

This was especially true for the cult that resided amongst the highest mountaintops.

At first glance, it seemed like a place straight out of a DREAM! With its blue-themed structures, people laughing, and clouds that you could literally touch... who could resist? It drew people in, causing an influx of members that rose to over 4,500+.

However... dreams could easily be warped. They could create illusions, twisting reality.

That was precisely what was happening behind the scenes.

You see, the ruler of this city basked in the popularity. They wanted more and more of it, even going as far as deeming it 'diverse'.

This declaration that they announced from their castle of course intrigued others.

Especially one person in particular.

After seeing just how large this 'safe' community was, she joined, becoming an official citizen.

At first, it was great! She got advice from kind people, met ones who were interested in her art, and even found wonderful individuals who shared hobbies. So, naturally, she was inclined to join more communities like it.

While wandering around the outskirts of the city in search, she discovered ruins that had similar architecture. Upon further inspection, it seemed as though these dilapidated buildings were in fact built by the same founder of the community she had just joined. Each had a few books that were filled with abandoned plans.

One of them shocked her to her core.

It bore horrible words, deeming certain relationships to be 'not correct'. That it was a sin... that there was only 1 kind of relationship they'd uphold.

She couldn't believe what she was hearing!

It took her a bit to decide what to do, eventually reporting it to the creators of the world (who eventually destroyed the book), then decided to confront the founder of the mountaintop city.

Needless to say, it didn't go well.

They went on to say it wasn't discriminatory (despite the creators of the world stating it went against the rules), and that if it hurt her... it wasn't their problem and they couldn't do anything about it (despite it being their property). I.E: They didn't care that their views caused harm, claiming people could twist context into whatever THEY desired despite the book saying otherwise. They CHOSE to be awful on purpose!

Honestly? The woman should have seen it coming. There were red flags everywhere; from them not listening to others' point of view in a recent debate and only rambling on about what they thought (despite claiming to say they're openminded), to even creating their OWN definition of what counted as discrimination, including asking others to provide warnings in front of the villagers' doors in case they housed any minority group- how could she have been so blind?

Despite that, she tried to provide them verses straight from their God to prove they were incorrect, but all they did was use magic to silence her words... before kicking her out, permanently barring her from the city. The ruler even blacked-out any connections they had to their failed cults just in case someone else discovered their true nature.

Ever since then, the woman made it her mission to warn people about the cults that resided in the kingdom, trying to keep her fellow comrades safe.

If an atheist says "(This group of people) is not correct," it's discrimination. But when a believer says the EXACT same thing (to THE WORD)... it's suddenly not? Make that make sense! Discrimination does NOT stop being discrimination because you believe in Richard Dawkins, unicorns, a talking air filter, or a guy with horns & a pitchfork.
