I wake up on the last day of the school year, my head throbbing dully from an oddly-timed sickness I had gotten. How fun, that the last week of school, usually spent enjoying myself and not having to do any actual work, was tarnished by a simple case of the common cold. I sighed, figuring I had been feeling well enough to go to school, because it was one of those sicknesses where you constantly felt like crap but not enough where you could actually suggest staying home to a parent. I got out of bed, assuming my parents had already left for work, as always. I put on some fresh clothes and practically ran downstairs, making myself a small bowl of cereal for breakfast, eating it, and running out the door to go to school. We didn't have much to do while there, so we spent most of the day saying our goodbyes, promising each other we'd all visit at some point during the summer, and all the other stuff people do on the last day of a school year. The final bell dismissed us, and we all went our separate ways, ready to relax for a few months until the next year started. I went home, yawning and getting back on my bed, pulling out my laptop i had gotten as a birthday gift from my parents a few months back. I open the computer, typing in my password and checking my email, as I normally do after school gets out. I see a new email from an unnamed user, opening it showed a file that i could download, which, normally I wouldnt download a random file from an email but I also figured it might be kinda funny to explain to my parents that I gave my new laptop a virus, so I downloaded the file and ran it. Nothing happened. I ran it again. Nothing happened. It was only after i had given up on the file and gone to buy some indie game that was really popular a few years ago that I had never gotten around to buying that i had noticed the strange stuff. On the website, the game was free. Despite it saying it costed money, but also, strangely enough, the place where the "add to cart" button would have been, it just said "ENGAGE" which was definitely weird. I shrugged it off, downloading the game. As soon as I pressed the button, I felt a wave of... nervousness? Apprehension? I wasnt sure. Once it was finished downloading, I went to launch the game, but instead of it saying "Launch" it said "ASSIMILATE" Which was definitely not normal. I clicked it anyway, and felt a strange pull towards my laptop, and before i knew it, the world around me vanished, and I could see my computer vanish in front of me, and I began to fall down a long way, a yellow patch of flowers the only thing separating me, and my certain death. I fell into the depths, blacking out as I hit the ground.
