Michael manages to exit his room, carefully stepping down the stairs. The kitchen had caught his attention, slowly making his way towards it. He couldn't remember the last time he'd actually craved food before. Maybe he could get used to living like this again. That is until his sister Elizabeth had been sitting in the dining room chair, already eating cereal out of a bowl. His sister was here, alive.
Michael grimaces when he notices her, which causes her to look at him with a confused look. Michael just couldn't stop but to think about how Elizabeth had lost her life as well, and how he was destined to find her years later.. But to see her young and alive again made his skin crawl.
"Are you alright Mikey?" Lizzy says with a mouth full of cereal. Back then, or rather now, Michael hated the name 'Mikey' Of course he grew a soft spot for the name Mike later on. Michael didn't seem to react to the name she called him, simply waving.
"God save the Queen, you really aren't okay!" Lizzy then replies, swallowing her food and getting up to get a good look at Michael. She stares at him with vibrant green eyes Michael feels like he hasn't seen since Circus Baby.
"What have you done with my brother?!" Lizzy demands, trying to intimidate Michael with her height as well. It's failing because she's way shorter than him.
Michael stares down at Liz, he blinks for a moment and slowly pushes her away which is fairly easy. "Nothing is wrong, Liz!" Michael replies, putting a hand on his head. "I'm just not.. Doing too good." He lies. He's just trying to come up with things on the spot so Lizzy wouldn't question him, which clearly wasn't going to work. He has so many questions himself, not even knowing how he ended up in this situation to begin with, not knowing how to fix anything.
"Is that why Daddy came into your room?" She questions, looking at him innocently. Michael then rolls his eyes and walks into the kitchen. "Yeah, let's go with that." He says back to her, yawning as if he's trying to play it cool. At least she didn't notice his face was puffy from crying.
"Hey! I wasn't done! Why is your face red?!?" She runs into the kitchen after him, ready to fight Michael for answers. Michael stops for a moment and frowns when she notices his face has been red from crying. "It's nothing Liz." He responds in a monotone voice, he really wanted her to stop, he doesn't know how much longer he could put up with this.
"..Just.. Eat your food."
Liz shakes her head and points at Michael. "You aren't the boss of me, Daddy is the boss of me! Stop acting so weird.. Or.. I'll bite you!" Lizzy threatens, though her threat felt very weak.
Michael looks away from Liz and sighs, he ignores her for a moment and opens up the fridge. As he scans it, he notices there's almost nothing to eat in there, then he glances at Liz when she starts making an annoying growling sound like she is some wild animal. "Go ask father if he'll show you the robot he's been working on." He would've said 'animatronic' but that's too complex a word for a child to understand.
Liz changes her attitude from annoyingly trying to pry answers out of her brother, to a happy one. "I want to see! I want to see!" Oh, she loved what her father was working on! A robot that looked a lot like her, it reminded her so much of her, oh she just wanted to see more! She ran to the table and dumped her bowl of cereal into the sink, which had almost missed the sink entirely but somehow managed to get in and she left the kitchen quickly afterward.
Moments later Michael could hear the basement door open, and then a loud shut. He sighs with relief as his younger sister is gone. The shock of seeing her was starting to die down a little, and then he really started to think about Elizabeth. Those eyes, that smile, that wild personality of hers. He knows it will all be cut short in just a matter of time. He knows what will happen to her, and it feels so wrong to see her now. He can't look at her the same. At least he could avoid crying in front of her, it wasn't as bad as it was with Evan.. But he still wants to cry, he still wants to beat himself up for it. He should've been there for the both of them, but he wasn't, he wasn't there.
