When Maria Hill opened her eyes, she wasn't lying on the cold concrete of that street in Moscow, where she remembers being shot by Nick Fury and bleeding to her death, anymore.
No.
She was lying on a bed in a semi-illuminated room where everything was soft and warm around her.
She looked confused around her, trying to fully comprehend what exactly was happening to her as a steady beeping was echoing in her ears.
To her right, she found a heart rate monitor that was displaying her rhythmic heartbeat.
"I'm glad to see you're finally awake." A raspy voice announced, making Maria snap her head in the direction of the voice "You took quite a long nap, Agent."
When she looked in the direction from where the voice came, the brunette commander found there a girl that looked to be in her mid-20s, maybe, even a little bit older than that.
There was something strangely too familiar in the features of the girl in front of Maria, despite never seeing her until now in her entire life.
"Who are you?" Maria growled at the woman in front of her "Where am I? Who do you work for?"
Maria tried to sit up but was hit by a wave of pain in her stomach.
Looking down, she slightly lifted the white shirt, she was changed in by someone, with her shakey hand and found a bandage tapped there.
That must be the wound created by the bullet Nick fired.
"My name isn't important." The stranger started to walk over to Maria's bed "And I'm not working for anybody. I'm a friend. Trust me. I just want to help."
The younger woman reached out her hand and tried to check on Maria's wound but it was quickly blocked by the older agent that was having zero trust regarding the intention of the other woman.
"Stay down." Maria ordered in a harsh tone
"I'm trying to help." The younger girl reasoned "Let me check your wound and nothing more."
Maria was hesitant about giving her permission to the girl but then she realized that if the girl wanted to hurt her, she would have long done so, thanks to Maria's wound that was leaving the commander at a big physical disadvantage.
"Alright." Maria nodded with a sigh "Make it quick."
Maria's eyes never left the girl's face the entire time that the mysterious woman was making sure Maria's wound was healing properly.
"No infection." The girl announced "Everything seems to be healing nicely."
"For how long was I out?" Maria questioned "How did you bring me here? Why did you bring me here?"
"I've brought you here to save your life after your beloved father figure A.K.A. Nick Fury left you to die on that street. But I must remind you he wasn't the one to pull the trigger though." The girl stated unphased "I took advantage of the chaos around that was created by the explosion and after Nick was dragged away from your body, I quickly brought you here. You've been asleep for a little over two weeks. I put you into an induced coma to ensure your body regained its strength and energy faster, after I managed to bring you back from the dead."
"Why would you help me?" Maria raised her eyebrow in confusion
"Because I owe you a debt." The girl moved aside, sitting down in a chair beside Maria's bed "It's my own way of paying you back."
