Noah's POV
I watch out my window as Heather pulls up and honks her horn. I can't believe she's actually making me do this. I get where she's coming from but this poor girl just got dumped and now she wants me to try to get with her? I'll make her a goodie basket and that's it, I'm not going to try anything with her. She needs space.
I sulk my way out to Heather's car and let myself in. She looks at me and smiles at me deviously.
"Goodie basket time!"
"Take advantage of a depressed girl time!" I say with sarcastic jazz hands.
"Oh come on its just a nice thing to do that will also get you some future boyfriend creds."
"Whatever. I'll be nice for once. Just drive."
"Get ready to vroom!" She quickly pulls out of the driveway and speeds to the nearest target. The whole ride there she talked about what to put in the basket. We decided on some chocolate, snacks, a claw clip or whatever Heather called it, a pack of celsius, a stuffed animal, and a blanket.
Heather aggressively pulled into a parking spot, I don't know how she hasn't killed anyone yet. We go into the store and throw something together. I got her a little teddy bear and knitted blanket, along with snacks of course. Heather tried to convince me to get her a card but I lucked out of that one. On the car on the way back, we put the basket together. I tried my best to make it look neat but it really isn't my forte.
I was surprised when Heather took the wrong turn back to my apartment.
"Where are you going"
"Lauren's." She said nonchalantly. Um. What?
"You know where she lives?" I asked utterly confused.
"I asked Geoff." She says keeping a straight face and her eyes on the road.
"You're so extra." I rolled my eyes and slumped back into the seat. I can't argue the matchmaker, she'll do anything to get people together. I stared straight forward for the remainder of the ride to Lauren's. We pulled up next to an apartment building and Heather parked.
"Okay its apartment #12, best of luck." She smiles and unlocks the door for me. I felt myself start to get worried.
"Uh but what If I look bad."
"You look fine. Now go." I sighed and got out of the car holding the basket. I slowly walked up to the entrance avoiding dropping the basket. I climbed up a flight of stairs searching for apartment 12. I saw it. I walked with a little more passion until I reached it. I took a deep breath and knocked. I waited a few seconds until someone opened the door. It was a guy holding a box.
"Oh hey." He said with a very monotone voice and watery eyes. I saw Lauren in the apartment, sitting on the couch.
"Oh hey, delivery for Lauren." The guy sighs and squeezes past me in the doorway.
"See ya Lauren." He says sadly, walking away slowly. Oh god. Did I just walk in on him picking up his stuff. Im such an awful person.
"Hey Noah, come in." Lauren says motioning for me to come in. I close the door behind me and walk in, sitting across from her on the couches.
"I'm sorry if I caught you at a bad moment. I just wanted to give you something to hopefully make you feel a little bit better right now." I put the basket on the coffee table. She smiles,
"You're too sweet. Thank you so much. Oh my god I've been wanting this blanket!" She stands up, "Can I give you a hug?" I nod and before I could stand up her arms were around me. I did my best to do the same but she was squeezing me. She really needed that hug. She let go and looked at me. You could tell she had been crying. Her mascara gave her a little bit of raccoon eyes and her eyes were red, making the blue pop out. This poor thing.
"Its nothing, trust me. Do you need anything else?"
"I don't think so, do you want some water or anything?"
"I'm okay, my ride is waiting for me." I wish I could stay but I don't want to keep Heather waiting. She nods and walks me to the door.
"Thank you again," She says, "I'll text you at some point today. We should hangout."
"Oh yeah I agree, can't wait to hear from you." She smiles and waves bye to me. I leave and enter Heathers car again.
"Sooooo how did it go??" She asks excitedly.
"Well I walked in on her ex picking up his stuff," She gasps, "BUT she did say she was going to text me to hang out AND she hugged me." I folded my arms and sat back in the seat. Heather squealed.
"OH MY GODDDD you totally just got some boyfriend creds!"
"Whatever." I say as she finally takes me home.
