I looked at them and then at dad. I said no I can't it was my fault it's ok. Dad said pumpkin what they did to you was not your fault it never was they treated you like you were a piece of property but your not your human. You said I-I d-fine but dad can you go I don't want you to hear because you and mom won't look at me the same.

Dad said of course pumpkin I'll be in the kitchen when you're ready. Dad went to the kitchen and the female officer said my name is Cathy and my partner is Ivy we are going to ask you some questions.

You nodded and Cathy said ok first one what kind of abuse would they go to you. You took a deep breath and said um they would try to drown me, burn me, hit me, withhold my medicine, they would burn my stuff if I did something bad.

Ivy wrote it all down and Cathy said great job Grace how many injuries do you have on you right now. You said uh I don't know a lot it hurts to do anything. You were now playing with your blanket. Cathy, sweetie can you tell us how this happened. Grace shook her head no like she was scared. David sat by her and hugged her to him so she would feel safe. 

Grace, well it usually was a punishment but it turned into more the older I got they do it to all the girls until a week before your adoption so you don't have fresh brusises but I do they didn't know I was getting adopted.

Cathy writes it down and nods, have they ever touched you inappropriately. Grace nods sadly and hugs her blanket more tightly. The officers leave and grace continues to cuddle into the blanket. David looks at her and smiles softly.

Once the kids and Georgia come in everyone sees her with her weighted blanket.
