The apartment was quiet, the distant sound of cars signalling the start of the work day streaming through open windows. Saturday mornings were usually Yunjin's favourite, waking up early and going for a jog through the cool morning air. Except Chaewon sleeping on her couch was complicated. The events of last night were complicated. Everything was complicated and it was giving her a headache.
Since when were feelings this hard to comprehend? Hatred and anger were cookie-cutter, Yunjin was familiar with the feeling, especially with Chaewon on her mind. But whatever she's feeling is too hard to explain so early in the morning — she found it sufficient to just not think about it at all.
Yunjin resumed the pacing she had been doing for ten minutes, gaze lingering every time she walked past Chaewon (who was still sleeping soundly). Brushing her teeth quietly with every shuffled step in socked feet, brow furrowed as she remained deep in thought.
Was this all really okay?
Last night was something indescribable. Something that they couldn't bring up between the two of them. It came with too many things that delved too far into foreign territory, another crossroad between an explosion of anger or awkward silence.
Yet the same terrible thought weighed insistently on Yunjin's mind, sounded out silently with every step she took.
Last night will have consequences.
For the five years they've known each other, there has never been anything quite like what happened at that party. Even less, everything that unfolded the second the two of them left together. Distinctly, without any fighting to grab at each other's throats. They're passionate, whether it be fighting or arguing in any way possible. Silence between the two of them is uncalled for.
Yunjin can handle fights, swears, a slap and a shove. But silence is terrifying. It's dangerous. She continues to pace restlessly, a growing discomfort spreading throughout her body.
Chaewon sleeping on her couch wrapped in her blankets, wearing her clothes is dangerous. This will have consequences, and Yunjin knows they'll weigh even heavier on Chaewon the second she wakes up and remembers what happens.
If she even does remember.
So she cuts the pacing short, squeezes her eyes shut to muster any ounce of courage in her being.
Stop being worried and just deal with it, you wuss.
Padding to the bathroom, the rush of cold water from the sink did little to quench her worrisome heart. She was still running from the problem, rooted in place with Chaewon just around the corner.
Yunjin checked her phone with a furrowed brow, rinsing out her mouth over the sink. 7:23 AM . She still has fifteen minutes to procrastinate on waking Chaewon up. So she wipes her mouth with the back of her hand, sinking down to the bathroom floor against the open door with a muted sigh.
There's an equal chance for the worst fight of their life or perhaps the most awkward conversation to date.
And god, she's running out of time to hide from it.
Huh Yunjin, since when have you become such a coward?
