How To Promote Your Book

You have finished your story/book/work etc. and now you want attention on it, yet you don't know how?

Same.

Promoting books/works takes a lot of dedication but once you find out the basics it's easy.

1) Social Media

Social Media has controlled our every day lives more or less by now.

Look for popular social media platforms - TikTok, Instagram, Pinterest, Blogs, etc. and start posting there.

It all begins with a simple post.

Who knows where it might get you?

1.1 TikTok)

When I wrote Tomorrow's Last Breath, I gave updates on how my work progress was going.

Popular Trends/Templates (e.g. on CapCut) catch interest fast.

My most popular format was "How writing my book is going" with a (more or less cursed) sound.

Be real in your videos, don't act like you have everything under control when you don't.

Being real on how your progress is going shows empathy for other readers/writers because they will go "Hey, I thought I was the only one struggling."

Use popular trending tags/tags that summarize your video:

#booktok, #bookstan, #writingabookasateenager etc. are examples.

1.2 Instagram)
A popular idea for Instagram is voting polls.

For example start a summer book club in Instagram where your followers can decide via polls what book you should read next.

Make short skits, post lines (the first line) of your work in progress, show your progress, your writing routine, your writing tips, writing prompts, etc. Make Twitter posts/announcements to tell your followers "Hey, I am doing ... and ... atm."

2) Stay consistent

Promoting your book may not catch everyone's attention at first. Keep going.

Having 5000 people who keep spam-liking your videos/posts is not as fulfilling as when 15 people comment and ask things about your book.

Keep posting formats of videos/Pictures/editions to keep the people and audience you built consistent and hooked.

Keep the people who are interested in your work interested.

That also counts for publishing your book.

Publish chapters in a frequent period.

Doing this will keep people hooked for the next chapter - best if you leave them on a cliffhanger :)

3) Do Cross-Media

If you have for example a TikTok account and an Instagram account, post a video on TikTok saying "I will reveal my book title on Instagram."

Doing so, you will lure the interested people over to your second social media account.

You will gain popularity.

The same goes for if you have a blog.

Anyways, y'all I have a TikTok Account @Faywillows

and I post things about my books there.

(see what I did there?)

4) Promote offline

This may sound stupid but talking about your book with people offline can get interest too.

Read lines, scenes, compare movie scenes to your characters - all that can or will get someone hooked.

I for example read a snippet from Tomorrow's Last Breath in my class in an English Reading Session.

My teacher was interested.

5) Don't stress yourself

Promoting your book can be frustrating.

I felt unsure if I should promote my book in the first place since I thought it wasn't good enough.

But in the end what counts is that you can proudly say "I wrote a book and I like it."

There are always people who will not be satisfied with you, your work, your presence.

But there are also people who cherish your work and can't wait for you to publish it.

And that is what counts the most.
