𝙉𝙤𝙬 𝙋𝙡𝙖𝙮𝙞𝙣𝙜: 𝙈𝙮 𝙇𝙞𝙛𝙚 - 𝙈𝙖𝙧𝙮 𝙅. 𝘽𝙡𝙞𝙜𝙚Summer mornings in the month of May are a favorite amongst the citizens of Greenland Heights, a large suburban city of about 400,000 people. The warm, soft summer breezes, the birds chirping, the kids playing in the streets. Of course, you can't forget about the music, smooth R&B music coming from outside of almost every house as the inhabitants were either cleaning or going on about their daily lives. The summer mornings are definitely a peaceful time in West and South Greenland Heights.
You're probably wondering: Why is there a "West" and a "South" part of Greenland Heights? They're both the same city, why do they have different names? Well, to explain, they're not exactly the same city.
West Greenland Heights puts the 'suburb' in 'suburban', which is why it's nicknamed "West Coast". At least every other household in the West Coast owns a Mercedes Benz, and their household income is well into the hundreds of thousands. The West Coast is full of middle-class to upper-class families who have things like dinner parties and country clubs, and kids who are in a whole bunch of extracurricular activities. It's the part of Greenland Heights that uses salad and dessert forks and goes on family vacations on tropical islands.
Now, in South Greenland Heights, no one uses dessert forks or wine glasses. They use one fork, and it's the Southside of Greenland Heights that puts the 'urban' in 'suburban'. It's not a bad area, but it's not exactly the safest either. Instead of country club dinners and cotillion balls, there are house parties with loud rap music, 4th of July Fireworks, and people dancing in the streets. This city is nicknamed "Saints Row", and there's a story behind it, but this is just the beginning.
Two different parts of the city, two different types of mentality, and two different types of people with two different types of attitudes, which is probably why they didn't like each other. Now there wasn't any fighting, or no one was allowed to step foot in the opposite city, nothing like that, but it was little things like snide remarks, dirty glances, and shady whispers.
At least in the daytime, the nighttime can get a little more...intense. The people in Saints Row thought West Coastians were uptight, stuck up, spoiled rich people with silver spoons stuck up their asses, and the people in the West Coast thought Saint Rowians were hoodlums, thugs, people who were the lower part of society.
Now, not everyone thought this way. The teenagers, whether they were from Saints Row or the West Coast, all went to the same high school, and some were cordial with each other, but never really hung or associated with each other outside of school.
Besides that, this specific summer morning was special. The juniors of Trinity Hill High School, the only school in the city of Greenland Heights, have officially become seniors, now at the finish line before the rest of their lives begin. Plus, it was the first day of summer before senior year, and the teens planned on spending time with their friends, vacations, warm summer nights, summer adventures, and maybe even summer love.
In West Greenland Heights, a 17-year-old girl is perched out her window, puffing on her Extrax cart while Mary J. Blige's My Life blasted from her TV, her stacked beaded bracelets clacking together when she raised her hand to hit her cart.
She liked all kinds of music, but she preferred old R&B out of everything else, especially if she was going to be smoking. It was just something about how smooth it was, how it made her want to be in love, and how some of the lyrics were so beautiful it made her want to cry. When she was high, she loved to feel free, to escape reality and feel alive again, even if it was only for a temporary moment. She took another hit of her cart as she watched the kids play in the street, waving to some of them as they waved up at her.
