VII. Ice Cream?

BELGIUM: July 2o23

Qualifying: It wasn't a fair race for Redbull. A bit of trouble was encountered and Evangeline realized that. After giving the day off from work, she decided on checking the two drivers out.

She had found Daniel first, "Daniel, how you feeling?" she asked. The Australian driver smiled sadly, "Could have gone better." he said. The reporter hummed and nodded, "There's the bad in the good." she said.

Daniel chuckled and nodded, from behind the reporter, he saw Clara. "Can I ask a favor Angel?" he asked as he looked back at her. She hummed and nodded, "Sure. What's up?"

"Can you look for Max? He just disappeared and I'm a bit worried." he said. Evangeline's eyes widened in shock, "You want me to look for Max?" she asked.

The driver smiled and nodded, "Yeah." he simply answered. She sighed, "Can't you ask someone else? We're not that close-" "Didn't seem like it yesterday." Daniel said smugly.

Evangeline narrowed her eyes at him, "I don't think-" "Please? I really need to talk to Clara, I owe you big time." he said.

This made the reporter to turn to see the PR Manager almost walking away. She sighed but nodded, "Sure." He thanked her and ran after Clara. Leaving the reporter with her thoughts.

She walked around the paddock, she had a free day as Lissie had taken over for the day. She was about to give up when she caught sight of Max. He was sitting on the curb with his head in his hands.

Evangeline frowned and walked to him. Not looking up, Max didn't realize someone there until he felt someone beside him. He jumped slightly and turned. He became more confused at the sight of the reporter.

"Sorry." she muttered. His eyebrows furrowed, "Why are you sorry?" he asked. She shrugged, "You're upset." she said simply. Max was astonished, it wasn't that easy to convince but she was right.

It was a shitty qualifying and as much as he loved racing, it still sucks when it won't end well for him and the team. This race wasn't an exception to that. Max wanted to let out some steam, not wanting to snap at anyone, not at Evangeline.

As he was lost in his thoughts, Evangeline was studying him. It was the first time that they were that close in proximity and she had to admit, he looked good when he was thinking.

But then again, she could only imagine how disappointed he felt, so she did something she never thought she would do in the times she had encountered Max Verstappen.

"Do you like ice cream?" she asked. This caused Max to look at her confused, "What?" he asked. She smiled nervously, "Ice cream. Do you like it?"

Max was confused, he wasn't annoyed, he was actually glad that Evangeline was looking, no, actually talking to him. But it was so random, it caught him off guard.

Evangeline sighed and stood up, offering a hand to him. He looked at it, still confused at what was happening. "Are you just going to sit there all day?" she asked.

He shook his head and accepted her hand. Standing up, he looked at Evangeline who smiled. Her hand still in his, he stared at her, just now realizing how right he was. She was very pretty.
