Lucas sat in his room, the cross hanging around his neck, cold, against his warm skin. He had work soon, and didn't want to be late, but he also didn't want to go. He was tired, and lonely, but he couldn't get a pet in his apartment. He watches the lights from cars outside move across his ceiling before getting up, stretching before he inevitably, fell.

Lucas is a young Christian man, 22 at most, with low iron, and suspected low blood pressure. He works at a small orphanage that sits beside his church. He lives alone on the fifth floor of an eight floor building that hosts a restaurant on the first floor. Lucas wears a pair of glasses that never slide down his nose, and has three piercings, one in his ear and two on his nose, which are connected by a chain, with a small diamond where the chain connects to the earrings. Lucas often wears turtle necks and loose pants, with some sort of high top sneakers.

Lucas gets up and puts his earrings in, like he does every morning. He makes himself a bowl of porridge, with honey, raspberries, and some other fruits. He cleans his dishes and then goes about showering. After he has showered, Lucas puts on his socks and a pair of loose pants. He puts on a Corpse T-shirt, with a dark brown turtle neck jumper over top. Lucas walked over to his kitchen counter and filled up his water bottle. As he got to the door, Lucas put on his sneakers and then walked outside with his water bottle and keys in hand, phone in his left pocket, and a small book and pencil in the other pocket.

As he got into his car and started it, Lucas looked through his phone for music to play. Mother Mother, Nirvana, AViVA, so many choices. He settled on Savage Love, by Jason Derulo, listening to the song as he drove to work. The drive was uneventful all the way, aside from a cool flock of birds that flew over the road at some point. Lucas parks in his usual spot and goes into the orphanage.

At 7:30 PM, Lucas leaves work, and drives back home. He eats dinner and goes to bed, like every other night, except, this pattern was going to end soon.
