My name is Jayce Darnell. I'm your typical university student. I'm 19 years old, I live in London, I work at a Starbucks, and I'm saving every coin I can get my hands on. Normally I don't enjoy talking about my life, but I figured I should give you some background of myself. I guess you could say I had a normal, yet rough childhood. My mum and dad divorced when I was 10. It was a really hard time for Zack, my older brother, and me. Our parents have shared custody over us, so I never really have settled down in one place. To make matter worse when I was 15 and Zack was 17 our mum was diagnosed with breast cancer. It was difficult considering she hadn't remarried and had nobody to support her. If you've never watched somebody battle a chronic disease than consider yourself lucky. Watching somebody with any form of cancer is one of the most heartbreaking things you could ever experience. So much pain, struggling, and hurt is involved in the long process. During that time Zack and I became closer than most siblings. He became like a parent to me but also my best friend. He looked after me and made sure nobody hurt me or our mother. Our dad left us alone and went off and married some lady from Ireland then moved in with her and her three obnoxious triplets. Enough of my sob story. Zack is attending University of Bristol at the moment to study film making so I don't get to see him often. I'm currently living with my best friend Abigal who is also saving money to attend university. We're going to be moving up to Bristol hopefully so that I can see Zack, and we can get away from London and all the pain it's brought us.
"Joseph!" I yell into the microphone for the last order of the day before closing.
"Thanks" A cute, young brunette said as he winked at me. I watch him walk out the door. Just another guy I'd never have a chance with. I sigh to myself before locking the door and washing up.
"Want to catch a film tonight?" Abigal asked me as she hung up her apron.
"I'd rather just rent a movie and go back to the flat."
"Fine but I get to pick!"
"Deal." I laugh at her before restocking the cup supply. I hang up my apron and walk to the exit quickly followed by Abi.
"Lovely evening if I do say!" Abi sang while skipping past me.
"Would the lady care to take a walk?" I ask gesturing with my arm.
"Why, I would be honored! Thank you!" I truly believe nobody will ever understand our friendship. We're like sisters; you would think we've grown up together. The truth is we've only known each other two years and they've been two of the best years of my life. When Zack left for university she really filled his spot has a best friend.
"I've got Tangled!" Abigal yelled as she kind of tripped down the stairs.
I laughed at her and told her the popcorn was in the microwave and the tea is being boiled. Movie night has become a tradition for us. Every Friday night we'll watch a film while eating popcorn and drinking hot tea in our pajamas. It also seems that whenever it's Abi's turn to pick she either chooses Cars or Tangled. That girl loves her Disney.
I plopped down on the sofa while Abi put in the DVD.
"Tanged...again!" I pushed her off the sofa.
"Yes, it's my favorite! Now shut up I like the commercials!" She said as she picked up a blanket and sprawled out on the floor like a child. I giggled and went to fix the tea. My phone started ringing from the sitting room.
"Abi can you pick that up for me!" I yelled to her.
"It's Zack! Come get it!" she yelled back to me.
I hurdled over the coach and picked up my phone.
"Buddy the Elf what's your favorite color!" I asked Zack as I answered his call.
"Tangerine!" He answered back without missing a beat.
"Wow what a nerd."
"I think it's a very cheeky colour so shush!" He gets frustrated with me since I make fun of any color he responds.
"Fine I apologize. Any-who, what's going on?" I asked pausing the film. Abigal got mad and started trowing popcorn at me attempting to get the remote.
"I have good news!"
"Oh really and what is that? Abigal Morrison stop that right now!" I snapped.
"I want to watch Tangled!" She threw herself at the floor.
"Sorry Zack, what were you saying?"
"You and Abi can come up and spend the week with me if you two would like!"
"Really we'd love that!"
"What would we love?" Abi whispered to me, but I kicked her away since she was being a brat today.
"Yeah! I have some mates on my floor who said you can stay in their rooms since they'll be out of town this spring break."
"Sounds great! Give me a ring tomorrow I've got to get back to babysitting Abi."
"Alirghty baby sister. stay out trouble!" He chuckled.
"No promises! Goodnight!" I smiled then hung up the phone.
"What are we excited about?" Abi grinned innocently.
"Zack said we can come up on holiday and stay with him for a week!"
"Really! That's great!" She jumped up and knocked over her mug full of tea. I glared at her as she went to get a rag.
"I'm so excited to go back up to univeristy and see my brother!"
