Amorette ;)

We ran for ages my legs ached and my lungs couldn't take it any longer. We made it to the city and stayed in an inn for the night after we knew we were no longer being followed.

Still, sleep didn't grace me with its presence instead I prayed all night long, it was the only thing I could do. I cried and prayed and pain washed over me like a tidal wave. I'm drowning in my thoughts, the emotions like water running through my body. I thought I was safe, I created a home for myself I tried to let go of the past memories, but like the saying goes ,the past will always come to haunt you. I know Shaquille has questions for me but what I know better than anything is that I can't answer them.

I just can't.

I don't know how I will explain anything to him, i don't know how i will explain him to him. Although rather than focusing on that, my mind shift to the bigger problems on our hands. One of them is where we are going to stay. I only just managed to grab my purse and yet there's barely enough money to last us a few more days in this inn. And I'm very sure that Shaquille doesn't have any money on him.

What are we going to do, no what am I going to do?

This is the perfect chance for Shaquille to leave, I have nothing left to offer him, my house is broken I'm running out of money and I don't have any food.

I stop pacing around the room and sit down on the bed. My mind is a tornado but my heart is empty, it's the scariest feeling I've ever encountered and tears start to fall out of my eyes quickly without any control, I let them fall because I know I'm in deep trouble. The worst thing in all of this is that my Bible exploded all of my notes lost in the wind more tears escape and I cup my face.

There's a knock on the door and a creak before soft thuds make their way before me. He sits next to me and wraps his arm around my shoulder and it's so comforting. I nuzzle my head in his neck and just cry letting my tears flow like rivers as he keeps whispering "It'll be alright".

Even though I know it's a lie, I cling to the words tighter than cling film and I don't let go.

—————————————-

After my little cry sesion I fell asleep finally getting a bit of peace, I wake up to the sunset and realise that I slept for most of the day. Shaquille was on the chair in the corner of the room and I feel bad for making him sleep in such an uncomfortable position.

However now that I look closer he isn't sleeping. Instead, he has what looks like a map in his hands and he is scribbling something on it. The map had many different sections on it trees and woodland that strethced on for miles ethced unto it in differnet colours and rivers and waterfalls that made intricate turns and bends caught my eyes.

"W-what are you doing?" I ask him my voice croaky because of the crying, I rub my eyes they are probably red, my braids splayed across my back and around my neck ; I should probably take them out.

"Oh you're awake, we need to get going." He stated a seriousness in his voice that I couldn't quite grasp.

"What do you mean we need to get going? Where?" His statement confused me since there is nowhere for us to go.

"We buy a horse from the horse trader at the end of the town and make our way to the border." He picks up a brown bag that was sitting next to the chair.

Where did he even get that from?

I start to pick myself up from the bed and stare at Shaquille. "Why the border, It's the most dangerous place to be?" I ask the question while walking to the mirror at the far side of the room, Yes my eyes are red, and another Yes because my braids look old, crusty, and misformed how long have i had them in. I walk away from the mirror to be faced with a Shaguille who now has a displeased expression on his face.

"I'll tell you on the way, now please we need to go we don't know when those people will decide to come back, we've already stayed here for far too long." That's true, they could come back at any time and I'm just sitting here waiting for their arrival.

"Let's go." I'm not going to sit here and let them find me, me and Shaquille make our way out of the inn and buy a few pieces of food that will last us to the border. We eat some on our way to the stall and then buy the horse from the trader, she was surprisingly cheap.

The horse's name was Peony but that is a bit boring so I wanted to change her name to Dakota I always wanted to name a horse but then Shaquille decided we should name the horse 'Horsey' and I spent a good five minutes laughing. we decided on Horsey after all. It's a cute name.

We said thank you to the horse trader and left, Luckily we only got one horse because I kind of forgot how to ride.

Shaquille sat on the horse first followed by me, the bag was strapped to the saddle and we were ready to go, I looked at the town I used to call home and I was left speechless, so many people I'd met all the ducks I had befriended ; I was just leaving, just like that. Shaquille gave me a short glance and I just nodded and then we left.

Shaquille :/

I saw it. The spark that used to brighten up a whole room had been dimmed. So much so that her neverending smile had reached its denouement. I thought it 'impossible' but to be frank she has done a lot of things that I had deemed 'impossible'.

I watched her small frame as she again got a few moments of needed rest. Her breaths came out steady her heartbeat synchronising with mine.

We had left the small town a few hours ago and during the ride, I had time to think. It had all happened so fast and I did not even want to fathom what might have happened had Ammorete been on her own.

And a small piece in my heart thanked the God she served for keeping her safe.

I  kept my hands on the reigns moving the horse at a normal pace not too fast and not too slow. I didn't want to wake her up, not after what she'd been through. When we left the town she had been crying quietly hoping for me not to notice but I did, I noticed everything that she did.

That's why when we were far away and I knew we could slow down the pace i started drawing small circle on her back as i kept moving the horse forward. It didnt take long for her breaths to become calm and little snores to fill the quite forest.

I stopped the horse near a stream. One of great importance becuase it is the stream I highlighted on the map. The one that would bring us to the border, the one that would bring us home.

To my home.
