Brie:
Their voices floated through the classroom, and Brie sighed softly. Did they realize everyone could hear them? She turned to Sabrina and rolled her eyes, gesturing to the three boys in the back row.
"I don't think they know what whispering is," Sabrina huffed before turning back to her computer.
"Why is this assignment so hard?" Josh wined from his seat before dramatically crumpling onto the desk.
"Maybe if you did the reading, you would know what we are writing about," someone answered, their voice dripping with sarcasm.
"Not everyone can be as perfect as you Aidan." Brie turned just in time to watch as Josh smacked Aidan across the back of the head with his notebook. Aidan's fingers started to curl into a fist, but his hand dropped slowly when he locked eyes with her. Josh noticed immediately and turned to glare at her.
"Do you need something?" he sneered, and she promptly froze.
"No, sorry," she mumbled before hurriedly returning to her assignment. She typed the concluding line and shoved the computer into her bag, pulling out a book to occupy herself.
"How is she done already?" Bennett complained and Brie's cheeks blushed a light rose as several people turned in her direction.
"Perhaps it's because she doesn't spend her class time chatting in the back row," a cold voice answered and everyone turned to face their teacher, who had appeared in the doorway.
"I don't need to remind you of how this essay could affect your grade, do I Mr. Jones?" Mrs. White asked, eyeing the back row carefully.
"No ma'am," Bennett grumbled and quietly sunk into his seat.
"Your parents pay good money to send you to such a prestigious school, don't let it go to waste," Mrs. White said curtly before sitting stiffly at her desk.
"Most of our parents pay good money to send us here. But what about the people who don't pay anything? Wouldn't that be considered a charity case?" Josh started and Brie's stomach filled with dread. There was only one person he could be referring to.
"You wouldn't happen to know anything about that, would you Brie?" Josh half whispered, loud enough for most of the class to hear him. She bit her lip in frustration as she felt her cheeks heat up. Thankfully the bell rang before he could continue and the students rushed into the hallway. Right as Brie was about to walk through the door her teacher spoke up.
"Try not to let them get under your skin. You're here because you deserve to be here," Mrs. White assured her and Brie nodded slightly. Even if she deserved to be here, that didn't mean she felt like she belonged.
"I can't believe how annoying they are," Sabrina muttered when Brie finally caught up to her. They continued down the hall, stopping when they reached Sabrina's locker.
"They think they own the school," Sabrina mused, running her fingers through her auburn hair as they watched the group parade down the hallway, shoving everyone out of their way.
"Don't they?" Brie whispered back. Sabrina shook her head and slammed her locker door, causing Brie to flinch slightly. Sabrina cast a disapproving glance at the boys chatting loudly just down the hallway.
Aidan was busily putting his books away when Josh spun around suddenly, smacking into Aidan, and scattering the books across the hallway. Aidan flinched in what could have been pain or simple annoyance, before grabbing Josh by the collar.
"What are you going to do about it, rich boy?" Josh smirked, freeing himself from Aidan's grasp and hurriedly running towards the gym doors. Brie watched Aidan stalk after him, leaving his books in the middle of the hallway.
