A Dragon's Heart and a Human's love (OC Vaer x reader)

Chapter 2 - Stumbling on a Dragon friend

It was around nighttime when I had made it a few miles outside the village, I had befriended a few animals here and there, mostly wolves, im surprised they didn't try to kill me, I even met pups and the mother didn't come after me, it was like I had a guardian angel, well I am, this is a fantasy world, not like anything you wish to be real won't be here. (Look at you breaking the fourth wall).

I kept on walking till there was a little opening among the trees in the grass area where I had walked over to, I put my stuff down and looked around. "Mine as well stay here for the night..." I looked around and went through the trees to collect wood as I made it back and started a small fire, I watched in the woods as a pup from earlier had come up. It limped over to me as I gasped, "oh no...did you get hurt-? What are you even doing out this late buddy?"

He turned towards the foods as we heard giant footsteps as I stood up taking out my sword, I paused seeing a dragon come roaring out before he stopped and stared at me, we both stared at each other before I backed up, but stopped feeling the fire behind me as the pup was also hiding behind me. Mist then formed around the dragon as it swirled around it, I paused hearing laughing as the mist cleared up, "never seen a human so protective over a wild wolf pup!"

My eyes widened seeing a human instead of a dragon, he smirked at me. "The name's Vaer. Yes there was a dragon on moment ago that you saw standing here but I can transform back and forth."

I put my sword down, "what are you doing chasing this wolf pup?"

"What are you doing guarding my dinner?"

I glared at him, "He's not your dinner. Plus he's with me."

He frowned and tilted his head, "explain please...?"

I rolled my eyes and looked at him, "why must I explain it to someone who was trying to eat him for dinner earlier?"

He sighed and spun around, looking around before stopping back when he got to me. "I won't eat him! Now please tell me?"

I squinted my eyes at him as he groaned and walked off before coming back and putting his hands behind his back and tying the together. "There-! Can't eat him now!"

I roll my eyes knowing he would be able to get himself out since he tied himself up, "I met him and his family on my journey, they helped me because I had gotten injured and led me back to the path."

I bent down and turned to the pup and tended to his wound, he was half my height, so technically he wasn't a pup but normally these wolves stay with their parents until older, though they do learn how to fend for themselves during the time of birth to now, the man looks at me in interest as I pause and look at him. "What?"

He paused and looked away, "hey what's that?"

He got up and walked over to my stuff as he picked up my spell book, I stopped and looked back as I gasped and quickly grabbed the book. "You practice spells?"

I glare at him, "can you not?"

He puts his hands up and walks off, he then sits on the ground on the other side of the fire. "I never got your name you know."

I put my book back down, "it's Y/n."

He paused, "what?"

I turned to him, "don't start making fun of my name because you're immature."

He stiffened and frowned as he stayed silent the rest of the time, I took out of my bag some food as I had set some of it by the fire to warm it, I took out a small snack for the pup and gave it to him, I paused hearing a stomach growl as I frowned and turned over to Vaer as he frowned and looked at his stomach and looked away, I sighed and took out another snack and through it at him as he paused and caught it, he looked at it before looking at me, "be thankful im being generous."

I took my food away from the fire and started eating it as I shared it with the pup once he was done his snack, once I was finished I put them back int my bag before setting up my bed as I turned away from the fire. "Why are you even out here in the first place...?"

I paused and frowned as I turned my head back, "what...?"

He looked away before looking back at me, "nobody usually comes out on their own really just to travel, especially in these woods."

I frown and sigh, I sit up and look at him, "im on a journey to find information for who's behind the disappearances, they probably aren't even just happening in my village."

He paused and frowned, "sounds like a lot...but aren't you around my age...?"

I froze and look up at him, "what do you mean?"

He smiled a bit, "I've never seen someone as young as you to be travelling alone...well...nobody like you travelling anyhow."

I looked away, "I know this path better than anyone, besides this path, there's another path in my village leading to the iceland's."

I frown then fix myself before hearing him speak, "would I be able to travel with you? I know my introduction wasn't okay but I could help you? Ya know? Help ya fight? Protect you?"

I look back at him, "uh...sure...just...don't go after more wild animals unless they attack first."

He smiled and nodded, "thanks-!"

He quickly hid his excitement before noticing me going to sleep, "night..."

I hum in response before falling asleep.

After the night I had woken up and all the firewood was burnt and turned to ash, I sat up and yawned while stretching, noticing the wolf pup was right next to me closed to the campfire and Vaer was on the other side of me, both cuddled up like babies.

I stood up and walked over to my bag and grabbed a can of water and drank from it before putting it back, I felt a breath of air before a yawn as I turned my head to see Vaer waking up, I passed him a snack as he smiled and took it, we heard a howl as the wolf pup quickly woke up and barked as it took off to the path as I frowned and grabbed my bag, putting it over my shoulder. I paused as me and Vaer looked at each other, he shrugged as we both got up and followed it, we made it to the pathway to see the father and mother of the wolf pup as the mother and the pup nuzzled one another.

The father looked up at us, he growled at Vaer as Vaer stepped back. "Don't worry, he meant no harm to your pup."

I bowed and looked at him, "he did get hurt though so I tended to his wounds and fed him. He should be good soon enough."

The wolf looked at me and walked up to me and licked my face, I smiled as they then walked off back towards the way of my village. I sighed and then turned the other way and started walking as Vaer followed me, "where are we even heading to...?"

I look at him, "to Idan."

He nodded as he looked forward, we kept walking for a little further as he stayed silent. Vaer paused hearing a noise as he put a hand in front of me, I stopped and looked at him. Goblins jumped out of the bushes ahead as I gasped as they charged towards us, I took out my sword before Vaer charged a fireball at them, knocking them all back as he rushed up with his hand lit and punched one back, the other goblin lunged at me as I gasped and blocked it's axe with my sword. I frowned and was pushed back as I fell onto the ground, I quickly rolled out of the way as the axe was dug into the ground. My eyes widened as I looked at the goblin as it growled and glared at me, pulling it's axe out of the ground.

I quickly got up and ran off as the goblin rushed after me, "Y/n-!"

I paused and looked back to see Vaer rushing after me, he jumped up and landed on the goblin, taking him down as I stopped running. He huffed and looked at me, "are you alright?"

I smiled at him as he scanned me, his eyes widened as he walked up to me. "you have a scratch...?! Did you fall?"

A blush crept up to my face as I looked at him, "it's just a scratch Vaer. Nothing bad."

He smiled, he then blushed and looked away, scratching the back of his head. "Sorry..." I smiled at his protectiveness before sheathing my sword and continuing on walking, he quickly caught up.

I knew with him, this journey wouldn't be so bad after all...
