They had spent the night sharing the same tent his leg not properly wrapped Soul found it hard to sleep. Mei was on edge so she got little to no sleep as well. the tension could be cited with a knife. The next day when Soul woke up he found Mei was nowhere to be found. Soul sat up to get a better look around. He was met with a sound of her grunt and what seemed to be a dead animal's cry. Mei walked into the large tent with a dead rabbit her arms dripped with the animal's blood. Mei seemed emotionless as if it was normal to kill random animals. Mei saw Soul look at her. "What?" Mei sounded upset and frustrated. Soul decided he didn't want to end up like the poor rabbit so he swallowed the lump in his throat. "Are you-uhm cooking for us?" Mei growled feeling his question was stupid. "What does it look like?" Mei said on defense. Soul bowed his head a little and muttered."Like you're holding a dead rabbit" Mei stared at him with irritation before walking off to cook the dead animal. The tent was filled with an electric silence as if words died before they left their mouths. Mei presented the rabbit stew she made using rations hidden in the medic tent. As Soul ate he decided to break the overwhelming silence that consumed him. "What's your story?" Mei looked up at him with a hint of offense. "Not like that I mean how did you get here" Soul corrected trying to avoid Mei's fury. "I'm from Paris...I was born and raised there." Soul looked a little interested but not too surprised as the war was between Paris and Japan was evident. Another awkward silence hushed over them. "I was born and raised in Japan..I lived with my mother we were pretty poor I wanted to be something great..for her" Mei raised an eyebrow. "Why are you telling me this stuff" Soul smiled "We're gonna be here for a while might as well get to know you." Mei was skeptical she thought he was an utter fool or trying to tick her. "Keep your friendship to yourself." Soul shrugged. After a while stories began to pour from each of them. Mei told him about how awful the food was during training and Soul shared stories about his life. Most of the time he talked and she listened. Soul could see they were getting along even if she didn't want to.
