It was dark. Night. Only the stars and the moon half full ligthed up the bituminised street of the small town. Wooden cabins towered left and right with some space between them and all around trees weltered in the wind. It shook the leaves and carried the screams of animals through the night. Not a soul was in sight, which is not surprising considering the time.
Suddenly, a dark creature broke from the shadow of a house and scurried to the next. It looked around sceptically and tiptoed further over the frozen floor to the next cabin und the one after that until it reached a good distance, where the houses stood kilometers apart. Infront of a yellow painted cabin it stopped and scampered into the shadows of the forest. A few seconds later the creature could be seen on the backside of the house, where there was still light in a second story window. Skilfully, it climbed up the wooden trellis, which was fastened right next to the bright window, and looked inside. One hand was already released from the grid to knock, but what it saw let it freez.
Inside a boy and a girl were sat next to each other on a bed, close enough their knees were touching. Both were still dressed in the formal clothes they had needed for the christmas dinner the evening prior. He, black trousers, which fitted perfectly with his short black hair, and a light blue dress shirt. Her a short red dress with a deep neckline and eventhough it was freezing outside no tights. Additionally, her long blond hair was curled and her green eyes accentuated with make-up, whilest his hair was tousled.
By her outer appearance one would say the girl was around fourteen years old and the boy nearing seventeen. Together they were laughing about a joke, which the dark creature outside the window could not hear. Both kept talking and came closer with each word they said to each other. The left hand of the boy wandered from the bare knee of the girl up to her neck and with a last pull their lips were laying on each other. Not one of them twitched back.
Slowly, tears made their way into the eyes of the creature infront the window and after them both in the room not letting go of each other for several moments, but getting more touchy and closer to one another, the creature climbed down the trellis quickly and ran down the street back where it came from. The tears ran down it's face uncontrollably. Sobbing it took out a phone from it's jacket pocket and called a number.
Already after a few beeping noises the other person picked up, but the creature did not let her speak. "He cheated on me", it whispered, "with Lettie." The person on the other end of the call was silent for a moment. "I'll wait outside", she said before ending the call. The creature kept running further and further until she was met with the sight of a red and white painted cabin. At the other end of the concreted drive way was a person already waiting for it on a wooden porch, which met it half way and pulled it into her arms.
Trembling the dark creature clawed itself into the other person and let the pain consume it. Gentle the person freed herself from the creature and examined it worriedly. "Cindy, my dear, you are heating up und shaking! Is everything alright?" The creature noticed the changes in it's body now as well as the high level of anger pulsing through it's vains, which was not normal for it. In general it was a calm human, who nothing could throw off that quickly.
Then it remembered a conversation, which it had a few days before with the eldest, and shyed away out of fright from it's younger sister. This one followed the action irritated with her eyes, how the eyes of the creature widened with realisation of what was happening to it, it turning around and sprinting towards the forest. The younger one of the two was right behind it immediately and watch in shock how the dark creature transformed on a moon lit clearing. It's upper body fell foreward, hands turned into paws with long sharp claws, it's body changed, out of every piece of skin grew fur in a matter of seconds, a tail shot out of it's behind and it's clothes teared into pieces until it reached the hight of a horse.
The person at the edge of the clearing was still frozen in place. Slowly the creature, which was now in the form of a giantic tiger, turned towards the person. Spellbound they both stared into each others eyes. Then the person dared to carefully take slow steps towards the enormous tiger. Step by step she came closer, not one of them broke the eye contact. Finally arriving infront of the tiger she hugged it effusively, whilest it let itself fall purring onto the grass, so that the person did not have to reach up so high.
This way they layed there. It could have been minutes, hours, even days - they could not have been bothered. In this moment they were able to let their emotions free with their loved ones near them.
