"Master Van Dort, from the beginning. Again." A man's voice is heard as three hours have passed since the two families have been at the wedding rehearsal.
"With this hand, I will lift your sorrows. Your cup will never empty, for I will be your wine. With this candle, I will light your way in darkness. With this ring, I ask you to be mine." The man's voice is heard, revealing it to be a scrawny, hunched-back, old Pastor named Galswells instructing Victor's vows as he stands before the soon-to-be-married couple as their families sit behind them.
"Let's try it again." Pastor Galswells says sternly toward Victor, who flinches away slightly as he stands next to Victoria.
"With this candle," Victor says as he holds his candle and goes to bring it to the bigger candle that is currently lit to light his own, but it does not catch the flame.
"This candle." He says a bit slowly to himself as he tries to light his candle but is not currently successful.
"Shall I get up there and do it for him?" Nell mutters to her family beside her.
"Don't get all aflutter, dear." William says to her.
"Mother, he's just nervous. Please have a little more patience," Y/n snaps at her mother, causing Victor to look behind him because he heard his family talking.
His mother, Nell, was using her hand fan to fan herself, while his father, William, was looking at him worriedly because the rehearsal had been going for three hours.
His twin sister Y/n was starting to get annoyed at their mother, who was being more and more dramatic in front of the Everlots.
All the while, his sister's bird, Figaro, has been eating away at the little snacks prepared for the two families.
He looks at Victoria's parents and sees them staring at them, unblinking in frustration as Maudeline holds her lovey watch, which ticks as each second passes.
He hears the pastor clearing his throat loudly in front of him, causing Victor to look back and see that his candle is now alight, causing Victor to nervously chuckle.
"With this candle," Victor repeats, laughing relieved. However, he accidentally blows out his candle, causing the Pastor to groan annoyed.
"Continue!" Barked the Pastor as he glared down at the young man before the sound of the Everlots doorbell toll.
"Get the door, Emil." Finis orders his butler, who blinks at being called by his name, before leaving the room to see who is at the front door.
"Let's just pick it up at the candle bit," Pastor Galswells says as he looks down at the soon-to-be couple.
As he does so, the butler, Emil, comes back with a card in hand.
"A Lord Barkis, sir." The butler says as he hands the card to Finis, who lets out a small grumble.
The butler speed-walks away, Lord Everlot looks down at the card, and Barkis walks to stand next to Finis.
"I haven't a head for dates. Apparently, I'm a day early for the ceremony," Barkis says as he looks at his fingernails. Maudeline snatches the card from her husband's hands and looks at it herself.
"Is he from your side of the family?" Finis whispers to his wife.
"I can't recall." Maudeline responds back before looking up.
"Emil, a seat for Lord Barkis." She snapped her fingers, causing the butler to quickly grab a chair and place it next to the Lord and Lady Everlot for Barkis to sit.
Everyone still looks at Barkis with curious faces.
"Do carry on," Barkis said as he lightly waved his hands to signal for them to continue.
